Well, welcome back. The Great Barrier Reef has been at the centre of climate warnings for decades. We've heard repeatedly that mass bleaching events are devastating the reef and threatening its future. But the latest coral data tells a more complicated story. Coral cover has remained at historically high levels in recent years, despite repeated bleaching events, raising questions about the reef's resilience and whether some of the rhetoric has matched the evidence.
Why GDP is no longer an accurate measure of living standards
With the budget well in the rear-view mirror, Jim Chalmers has increasingly become chief putter of lipstick on the Australian economic pig. The Treasurer and his small army of media and political advisers - and perhaps the bulk of his 1600-odd staff at the Treasury - must dread the drip feed of conventional economic statistics.
What if AI kills the grunt work that creates expertise?
The greatest risk may not be that today's graduates lose their jobs but that tomorrow's senior professionals never properly learn how to do them. I have some reservations about newly graduated psychologists using AI to write their clinical notes. For an experienced psychologist who has written thousands of notes, having AI generate a decent first draft in seconds is an obvious efficiency. But I'm much less enthusiastic about someone using it from their first day on the job.
Adam Creighton on The Rita Panahi Show News24 - 1 September 2026
Joining me now is News Corp senior writer Patrick Carlyon, and IPA chief economist, Adam Creighton. Adam, this is a mess and we could see people's home values devalued further if we have another rate hike this year. Adam Creighton: Yeah, certainly that's true. I mean, certainly if you've just bought, you'd be very worried if you had this enormous mortgage and the prices are falling. I mean, the nominal falls don't even go to the full picture.
National ooshie accord failed again - nearly 100,000 homes behind
"Today's housing approvals data show the federal government's marquee housing policy, the National Housing Accord, is in disarray, with an approvals lag of at least 88,784 homes," said Dr Kevin You, Senior Fellow, at the Institute of Public Affairs. Earlier this week the Minister for Communications and Sport, Anika Wells, took to social media to educate the masses on the basics of housing supply and demand using Ooshies as her teaching aid, with Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 playing in the background.
Adam Creighton on Drive with Jamie Burnett 6PR - 31 August 2026
That is one part of the puzzle that has been flagged by Adam Creighton. He's a chief economist at the Institute of Public Affairs. Good day, Adam. Adam Creighton: Good afternoon, Jamie. Jamie Burnett: Why now for super reform? Adam Creighton: Well, look, we're clearly in a cost of living crisis and it's been established for many years that 9% was actually the appropriate rate. The government's treasury has said that, left wing think tanks have said that, right wing think tanks have said that.
I'm a psychologist and I get worried when parents say this about their teenage boys
If you are raising a teenage boy in Australia right now, you could be forgiven for occasionally looking across the dinner table and wondering: is there something I should be worried about? Recent headlines involving boys and young men, alleged sexual assault, sexual strangulation and degrading behaviour towards women have been confronting. For parents of young boys like myself, these stories can land particularly close to home.
Daniel Wild on The Rita Panahi Show News24 - 31 August 2026
Let's take a deeper look at some of those numbers with deputy executive director of the Institute of Public Affairs, Daniel Wild. Dan, this news poll also revealed there's now a generational divide over house prices. Those most in favour of house prices lifting are Australians with a mortgage and those age 35 to 49, while younger people are the group that want to see prices drop.
Parliamentary Research Brief - August 2026
How $688 billion of investment was lost Australia is declining as an investment destination under the weight of hostile government policy and stifling bureaucracy. The IPA estimates that $688 billion of investment has been forgone as governments have made the country increasingly hostile to investors.
Adam Creighton on Weekends with Luke Grant - 2GB
So much to talk to on this segment today with Adam Creighton, the chief economist at the Institute of Public Affairs, who's switched on more than most. Put it that way. Good day, Adam. Adam Creighton: Good morning, Luke. Great to be here. Luke Grant: Thanks, mate. Really good to talk to you. One Nation will start there as one this seat in WA with Luke Herdegen claiming victory in the Secret Harbour by election. It's One Nation's first lower house seat in the state.
