The Oath-Taking and Appointment Ceremony for the Councillors of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for the term 16 March 2026 to 15 March 2028 was held yesterday at the Ipoh City Council. The ceremony was officiated by Puan Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, Chairperson of the Perak State Housing and Local Government Committee, together with the Zamakhshari Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh.

After kicking off this year’s nationwide Sunway Sinar Ramadan initiative at Pusat Jagaan Impian Syimah in Johor Bahru, Sunway continued its journey in Perak by impacting more than 500 residents of Kampung Orang Asli Chadak with festive activities, distribution of essential groceries and a communal buka puasa gathering.

The objective of the event was to give an opportunity for the city residents to know and understand the tradition and culture of the different races in celebrating the various occasions. Ipoh City Mayor, Tuan Zamakhshari Hanipah, presented the MBI Prihatin special contribution in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration to 15 MBI staff members at Dewan Azlan Shah, Level 10, MBI Building, yesterday. The AHF–Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy and the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Ipoh organised a three-day “Basic Knowledge and Rules of Hockey Workshop” held at the MU Hotel in Ipoh recently. A total of 24 participants attended the program, which focused on both basic coaching and umpiring aspects of hockey.

Chandra Sagaran Individuals or organisations who wish to distribute free food and drinks in conjunction with the up-coming Thaipusam celebrations on Feb 1 are required to apply for permits to set up tents only from the Ipoh City Council. According to the council statement applicants need to submit forms with supporting information including MyKad numbers, location of the sites and picture of the location.

In an effort to enhance comfort for visitors to the Tun Razak Library in Ipoh, Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) will be undertaking an upgrade of the air-conditioning system this year. For this purpose, an allocation of RM700,000 has been approved under MBI’s development budget. The scope of works includes upgrading the electrical wiring, air-conditioning system, as well as improvements to toilet facilities.

The Ipoh City Council hosted its annual Media Night gathering at the Ipoh Convention Centre last night, drawing a strong turnout from members of the print and online media. The event was hosted by Ipoh City Council Mayor, Zamakhshari Hanipah, together with his team, marking his first official media night since assuming office. In his opening remarks, Zamakhshari expressed his pleasure at being able to engage directly with members of the media in a relaxed and cordial setting.
