Ipswich households now have more ways to dispose of large household items. From today (1 September), residents can choose between a new waste voucher for use at council’s Resource Recovery Centres or the on-demand kerbside collection service each financial year. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the new voucher gives residents more choice about how they dispose of unwanted items and added cost-of-living relief.

Ipswich residents, businesses or organisations with a project to enhance their local community and environment are being encouraged to apply for support under the Ti Tree Bioenergy Community Fund. Round 2 of the Ti Tree Community Fund offers grants of up to $15,000 to support environmentally sustainable projects on private land, along with community projects and events that benefit local communities and the environment.

Ipswich’s day to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of its citizens is returning, with nominations open for the 2027 Ipswich Australia Day Awards.

Ipswich artists are invited to showcase their work at one of the city’s most loved creative spaces, with expressions of interest (EOI) to open for the next year of Ipswich Community Gallery exhibitions. Ipswich City Council Economic and Cultural Development Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle said consistent with previous years, at least 70 per cent of exhibitions from March 2027 to February 2028 will feature artists and arts groups with a connection to Ipswich.

Ipswich residents will be better able to connect with the city’s councillors about matters important to them and the community with a refresh of elected representative office space at Ipswich City Council’s administration building. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the refreshed workspace was an investment in effective local governance and would improve how the community could interact with decision-makers.

Whether it’s restoring a 140-year-old home, recreating medieval battles or passing on millennia-old stories, Galvanized – A Festival of Heritage will celebrate the past. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the festival on from 4 to 13 September celebrates the heritage of Queensland’s oldest provincial city and much more with a city-wide program of more than 30 unique events.

New pay-by-plate parking meters are now operational across Ipswich Central. The meters replace the city’s ageing pay-and-display system with modern smart parking technology, making it easier for residents and visitors to access on-street parking in the city centre. Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said the new meters would improve customer experience. “Drivers no longer need to place a paper ticket on their dashboard,” Cr Doyle said.

Visitors to Purga Nature Reserve will be able to spend longer enjoying the peaceful surrounds with the completion of new features in an upgrade of the day use area. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the day use area had been beautified with fresh pathways, landscaping, refreshed facilities, new picnic shelters and – for the first time at the reserve – gas barbecues.

Dog owners and their four-legged friends are celebrating the completion of a new district-level dog off leash area at Limestone Park. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the new facility on Chermside Road, Ipswich is another example of council investing in facilities that enhance lifestyle and make our community an even better place to live.

A regional partnership hosted by Ipswich City Council will continue its work to strengthen climate resilience across the region after it was extended for another three years.
