A woman died after being hit by a motor vehicle in Ocho Rios, St. Ann this morning. Dead is Claudette Thorpe of Petersfield district St. Mary. The driver of the car has been arrested. Reports are that about 6:10 a.m. the driver of a white Toyota Mark X motor car lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved erratically along the roadway, climbed the sidewalk where Thorpe was walking, hitting her. The vehicle then hit a wooden utility pole and came to a stop.

The St. Catherine north police have listed 9 men as persons on interest in relation to crimes committed in the division over the past few months. These persons are being asked to report to the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch no later than next Monday, June 15, at 4:00 p.m. Commanding officer, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson noted that the March Pen community has recorded several incidents, including murders and shootings.

This as high levels of nitrate can leak from the pits into sources of water meant for human consumption. In a statement, the JSE noted that the cyber breach occurred recently and has since been contained. It said the accessed information includes clients’ full name; residential and or mailing address; email address and telephone number; date of birth; government-issued identification (taxpayer registration and passport numbers); and account number or client reference.

A 19-year-old man, accused of chopping his mother and two brothers at their home, is in police custody. One of the brothers, 21-year-old Labourer Travis Williams, died at the scene. The mother and the other brother, who is a teen, have been admitted at hospital in serious condition.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says capital investments are not driven by demonstrations or political allegiance but by projects that will yield economic returns. He made the statement at the Spring Village bridge opening in Old Harbour, St. Catherine today. According to the Prime Minister, the Government must be objective when carrying out projects. He said investments cannot be prompted by persons who stage fiery protests, block the most roads or know the different government ministers.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has established a special internal team to provide direction to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) following the utility company’s submission of its preliminary report on the islandwide blackout last Friday. In a release today, the OUR said the team will also undertake necessary preparations, and review the final report to determine its validity, the relevance of JPS‘ recommendations, and the actions specified by JPS that are to follow.
