Around 3,500 cyclists will be in south west Scotland this weekend, for one of the top events of its kind in Europe. The Gralloch will be at Galloway forest park from Friday 15 May until Sunday 17 May. Elite cyclists will compete in the UCI race on Saturday, which is 323km in distance. It's for a chance to qualify for the UCI gravel world championships. Amateur riders can also enjoy the weekend festival, cycling along gravel paths around the forest and taking in the views.

Wild beavers found in Cumbria following 'illegal and unauthorised releases'
A nature recovery programme has found wild beavers on the River Lowther in Eden for the first time in centuries. Cumbria Connect says the animals are "believed to originate from illegal and unauthorised releases". Martin Varley, programme manager for Cumbria Connect, told ITV Border: "There's nowhere else these beavers can come from, we can't magic them out of thin air.
New MSPs sworn into Scottish Parliament
New MSPs have been sworn in at the Scottish Parliament. Scotland has a total of 129 MSPs being formally sworn in lined up for the oath of office, pledging their "true allegiance" to King Charles and his successors, including 11 MSPs elected to represent the ITV Border region across the South of Scotland.
Bluebird runs again (briefly): Donald Campbell's hydroplane needs 'few more adjustments'
Donald Campbell's legendary hydroplane, the Bluebird K7, has run again today on Coniston Water. The craft spent about six minutes being propelled by its own steam this morning (Thursday, May 14), before pilot Dave Warby turned the engine off. An announcement was made at Coniston, saying: "It obviously needs some extra adjustment. The engineers thought they had done enough, but obviously a little more is required. "She's very nearly there.
First job at 64: Lockerbie cafe breaking barriers for adults with learning disabilities
A social enterprise cafe has been nominated for its second award, for its outreach work in the community. Hartnell's Cafe employs five adults with learning disabilities - for many it's their first ever job. Richard Graham is one of the residents at Trinity Lodge, a service for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, who works at the cafe. He said he was 'happy' and 'proud' when he found out he got a job, and for Richard it was his first job at the age of 64.

The rise, fall and rebirth of football in Gretna

'I want women to feel safer': sexual assault victim on using AI to fight predatory behaviour
A woman who was sexually assaulted when she was 12 is now part of a team trying to use AI to make women safer in public spaces. Cockermouth-based Createc plans to use lidar sensors, which can track people’s movements and map them out as these dots on a screen, to create alerts if its 'Situate' system detects something that could be suspicious.
