Boundless Wight, a student company from The Island VI Form, was welcomed to County Hall this week following a remarkable year that saw the team reach the Young Enterprise UK National Final in Cardiff.

Campaigners gathered outside County Hall in Newport this week as Isle of Wight councillors debated whether to declare no confidence in Southern Water. The protest on Wednesday (15th July) came after the water company pleaded guilty to pollution offences relating to the River Test, a major source of the Island's drinking water. Demonstrators urged councillors to back a motion expressing no confidence in Southern Water's handling of wastewater and environmental issues.

Families are being invited to explore the Isle of Wight's coastline this summer as ranger-led rock pooling and fossil hunting sessions return to Fort Victoria Country Park. Running throughout the school holidays, the guided sessions offer the chance to discover marine life including crabs, shrimps, anemones, fish and shells, while also searching for fossils hidden among the shingle. Participants may even uncover the remains of ancient marine creatures such as sharks, fish, turtles and crocodiles.

A team from the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary has completed one of the UK's toughest mountain challenges to raise money for the Sandown-based charity. Chief Executive Lawrence Bates was joined by Mary Lenton, Sandra Digby and Charlie Panayi as they attempted the Welsh 3000s – a demanding route covering all 15 of Wales' mountains over 3,000 feet. The team completed the first two sections together, reaching 10 summits and climbing more than 9,000 feet over 15 hours.

The three projects have secured funding through the Sea-Changers Coastal Fountain Fund, with the Isle of Wight Council supporting successful bids from Lake Parish Council, Sandown Town Council and Shanklin Town Council.

Walk the Wight 2026 has raised a record-breaking £620,454.67 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, smashing the event's previous fundraising record by more than £60,000. The final total was announced at a thank you event on Thursday evening following this year's charity walk, which was sponsored by the Isle of Wight Festival and Red Funnel. More than 9,000 people took part in Walk the Wight on 10 May, choosing from four routes of up to 26 miles across the Island.
