Health officials across the state aren’t the only ones concerned with the rising number of cases of Cyclosporiasis, the parasite that causes, among other symptoms, explosive diarrhea. As a response to the outbreak, Taco Bells across the state have temporarily removed several items from their menu to hopefully quell the spread of the bug.

A new sport is growing in popularity out in West Texas, so much so that one university is spending $1 million to certify it as a Varsity sport. Olamaie, a Southern fine dining restaurant in Austin, was one of the first restaurants in Texas to receive a Michelin Star after the state became eligible to receive them in 2024. It retained its star in 2025, but unfortunately the store will not last through all of 2026. The restaurant announced that July 19 will be its last day of service. It opened in 2014. Thankfully, Blue Bell has launched a free ice cream tour across Texas and are making their way to DFW for their next stops. Per the Dallas Morning News, this is Blue Bell’s way of thanking us for our years of service, by handing out handing out free hand-dipped ice cream, frozen snacks and fun giveaways all across the state.

The ground has broken on White Castle’s first location in Texas, with the restaurant at Grandscape in The Colony planning to open later this fall. The chain already has its sights set on its second location in the Lone Star State and have announced it will be opening in Funky Town. The restaurant will open at the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, which is southwest of downtown Fort Worth, near Benbrook and Crowley.

Justin Newton wants to create a welcoming, neighborhood business akin to the television show Cheers. You know, one where everybody knows your name. Speaking of, his new spot in Lake Highlands Charlie’s Tavern & Kitchen is named after Charlie, his 11-year-old canary-winged conure bird. Charlies in Dallas is now open for business, serving burgers, wings, and elevated pub fare. It’s Newton’s second location in North Texas, having previously opened near the University of Texas at Arlington in February.

18 states across the county, including Texas, are currently ravaged with cyclosporiasis, a stomach parasite that causes, among other things, “explosive” diarrhea. Denton County was the first to confirm cases of cyclosporiasis, with two reports so far this season, though several more counties have reported its presence now, including Dallas County.

An elderly Texas couple is facing federal charges after they were caught trafficking more than 345 pounds of cocaine through a South Texas checkpoint. On July 1, 80-year-old Luke David Brader and 74-year-old Susan Brader were apprehended at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Falfurrias after a K-9 alerted agents to their trailer, leading to the discovery of 134 packages of cocaine concealed inside a hidden compartment.

Juliet, a staple for celebrities visiting Houston, is bringing its gold-wrapped steaks to Dallas. Per CultureMap Dallas, Juliet promises “an elevated experience unlike anything currently in the DFW dining landscape.” The restaurant released a statement that read, “Dallas already knows Delilah, the buzzy, celebrity-magnet supper club that took the Design District by storm and had the city's most discerning diners scrambling for reservations.
