Did you know that your tap water can help prevent cavities? It can, if it has the right amount of fluoride. How Does Fluoridated Water Help? Cavities develop when the hard tooth surface (enamel) is broken down by bacteria in your mouth called plaque. Plaque bacteria produce acid from foods and beverages. It is this acid that damages the enamel.1 Fluoride can help harden enamel and can even reverse cavities in the early stages.
