In this study, we identified a protein called Mask as a new modulator of an evolutionarily conserved immune signaling pathway called Toll, using fruit flies as a model. Although Mask is already known for its role in signaling pathways that are important during embryo development, its involvement in immune regulation has not been well understood.

Open figure viewer The kinetochore complex is a conserved, multi-protein complex essential for the accurate segregation of chromosomes during cell division (Cheeseman, 2014; Cheeseman and Desai, 2008; McAinsh and Marston, 2022). The complex assembles on centromeric chromatin, mediates the attachment of chromosomes to spindle microtubules and facilitates chromosome movement during both mitosis and meiosis (Foley and Kapoor, 2013; Musacchio and Desai, 2017).

The target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1), a central nutrient sensing hub, exhibits complex regulatory interplay with ammonium transporters in response to nitrogen starvation.

The limiting membrane of lysosomes is prone to damage that can have deleterious consequences for cellular homeostasis. Cells respond to this damage with an array of molecular countermeasures, ranging from membrane repair mechanisms to elimination of terminally damaged lysosomes by selective macroautophagy. The various elements of this response therefore need to be carefully assessed in the context of the specific pathological or experimental conditions being studied.
