Turkmen: Tribal Carpets and Traditions - virtual lecture
The Textile Museum's "Rug and Textile Appreciation Morning" series continues on Saturday, 25 July, 2026, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT, with a virtual session titled "Turkmen: Tribal Carpets and Traditions." The session looks back at a milestone in the museum's history: the 1980 exhibition of the same title, which brought together close to 100 outstanding weavings, a large share drawn from the museum's own holdings.
Exhibition of Azerbaijani Carpets in Budapest
On 26 June 2026, the exhibition "Azerbaijani Carpets: From Tradition to Contemporary Art" opened at the Ethnographic Museum in Budapest. The exhibition marks the 120th anniversary of carpet artist and scholar Latif Karimov. The exhibition includes historical carpets from the 17th to 20th centuries, along with traditional textiles, national costumes, jewellery, carpet sketches and contemporary works. It presents carpet traditions from the Karabakh, Shirvan and Baku regions.
Dates for the next ICOC 13-16 May 2027
The International Conference on Oriental Carpets (ICOC) has announced new dates for the 16th ICOC in Brescia to 13-16 May 2027. The reason is that the Italian authorities suddenly changed the dates for the world famous car race Mille Miglia from June to the end of May, which would have coincided with the earlier announced dates of the ICOC. Plans are being made to extend ICOC-XVI to Milan.
Carpet & Textile Forum will take place 6-8 April 2027
The 2027 edition of Carpet & Textile Forum will take place 6-8 April 2027 at the at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott in Boulton, California. The launch of the event will be on Tuesday 6 April with the opening of Dealers' Show, followed over the next two days by a variety of rug and textile sessions culminating with a "Show and Tell" on Thursday afternoon. On Thursday evening the participants will enjoy a Southwest Barbecue.
