Accuracy of contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography using Optison™ for diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux in children
Background There is limited quality of evidence regarding the accuracy of contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS) for diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) compared to fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrography (VCUG), and minimal data on the use of the ultrasound contrast agent Optison™ for this purpose. Objective To compare the accuracy of ceVUS using Optison™ to VCUG, and to assess inter-rater agreement regarding presence and grading of VUR.
Low-dose every-second-day LHRH treatment following bilateral orchidopexy in children with bilateral cryptorchidism may improve their fertility outcome
Introduction/Background: Currently the standard treatment for bilateral cryptorchidism is bilateral surgical orchidopexy. Whether a hormonal treatment should be routinely administered postoperatively to increase fertility is debatable. Low-dose postoperative luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) can increase spermatogonial numbers, but the effect of native LHRH (Kryptocur®) on adult fertility is unclear.
An Alternative Lower Tract Approach to Ectopic Duplex System Ureteroceles Feasible in Young Children
The best surgical approach to ectopic ureters and ureteroceles is yet to be determined. The objective of this study is to provide an alternative lower tract surgical approach to ectopic ureters and duplex system ureteroceles that can be safely performed in young children. The “in-and-out” bladder approach was performed via an open intravesical incision. The upper and lower pole ureters were mobilized and brought into the bladder.
Retrograde incision from orifice (RIO) technique for endoscopic incision of ureterocele: 15 years of outcomes
Introduction Management of obstructing ureterocele often includes endoscopic transurethral incision (TUI) that can be challenging secondary to uncertainty in anatomic landmarks with risk of serious complications. To this end, we innovated a technique using predictable landmarks that begins endoscopic incision at the ureterocele orifice and extends retrograde proximal to the bladder neck (Figure).
Recurrent Ventral Curvature After Corporoplasty with Tunica Vaginalis Flap
Extended Summary Introduction And Objective Optimal means to correct ventral curvature (VC) is debated. Our preferred technique for curvature greater than 45° is corporoplasty using tunica vaginalis flap (TVF). We describe our complications with TVF for ventral lengthening. Methods Forty-four boys who underwent ventral lengthening with a corporoplasty with TVF were identified in a prospective database for proximal hypospadias repair by a single surgeon from 2008-2021.
An approximation method for the prevention of knot formation during catheterization in children
Formation of knots during urethral catheterization in children, i.e., for the collection of urine for culture, or for performance of retrograde cystourethrography, is an unpleasant situation not only for the patient, but the clinician as well. Occasionally, aggressive actions must be taken, to achieve removal of a knotted catheter []. Searching for ways to minimize the risk of this complication, we assumed that to prevent the formation of a knot, we must first understand its nature.

Epilepsy and Frequent Nocturnal Enuresis among children in Shanghai, China
Introduction Nocturnal enuresis (NE) is a common elimination problem that affects physical and psychological health of children older than 5 years, and more than 80% of them are primary. Frequent nocturnal enuresis (FNE) usually refers to involuntary urination more than 4 times a week during sleep. Children who frequently wet the bed are more likely to become adults with NE. The arousal dysfunction in response to micturition desire is the main pathogenesis of NE.

– Stress urinary incontinence is of concern in both pediatric and adult population. Double mutant GLI family zinc finger Gli2+/−; Gli3Δ699/+ murine model of stress incontinence has been recently developed as a reliable model which does not require surgical manipulation to create incontinence and is shown to survive to adulthood.
