Search ArticlesLemon Basil Bean Dip
This Lemon Basil Bean Dip is a bright, protein-packed bean dip made with navy beans, ricotta, lemon zest, and basil. Ready in 5 minutes to enjoy over toast, with crackers, or as a veggie dip. I was searching my archives for something the other day — something I do more than you’d think — and I stumbled on a post from 2010. Flare jeans and polos were still a thing back then, if that tells you anything about how long ago we’re talking.
Back To School 2026
‘Tis the season for backpacks and routines! And yes, I can believe it!! 2nd grade and 8th grade. No new schools – just the routines back in order! The 2nd grader was THRILLED to go back. He couldn’t wait! The 8th grader grumbled about how boring it is, and spent a really long time on his “look,” as is typical of this age 🙂 He also declined first day photos, which I respected, but it made me sad!! We went to back-to-back open houses on Monday to meet the teachers.
What To Eat At An All-Inclusive
Going on a vacation? Where’s my strategy when deciding what to eat at an all-inclusive. This was a Virgin cruise! This post originally appeared on my Substack but I wanted to republish it for saving on the blog. ^^ Yuzu tarts with meringue at Test Kitchen Unlimited desserts. Endless pizza. Restaurant-quality meals at every turn. If intuitive eating works anywhere, it should work on an all-inclusive vacation.
What to Eat After a Gum Graft (My Real Food Game Plan)
What to eat after a gum graft — real soft foods for getting protein, fiber, and calories in, plus product recs and gift ideas for recovery. I had a gum graft recently, and if you’ve never had one — it’s exactly as unpleasant as it sounds. A week with a very tender mouth meant a very limited diet. Knowing my diet would be dramatically altered for a week, I went into it with a real plan. I’m a dietitian, so I can’t help but think about this stuff.
BHI 2026: The Food
Here’s a recap of our beach meals! See all the fun pics in this post. One of my favorite things about the beach (and this house especially) is enjoying coffee and breakfast out on the porch when it’s not too hot. I was about 30% through Yesteryear when I arrived and LOVED reading it!!!! The author is actually from Charlottesville! It was one of those books that I was sad when it was over. I have a few bones to pick with the plot, but overall I can see why it’s been so popular.
BHI 2026: The Family Fun
Here’s a recap of our 2026 summer beach trip to Bald Head Island. This post is the family fun, and the next one coming is everything we ate! We had a great time on our annual trip to Bald Head Island! The forecast was all rain, yet we didn’t see a drop after getting off of the ferry! At the end of the week, everyone was salty and sun-kissed. This was our FOURTH stay at Sea Oats Cottage! And it keeps getting better and better.

We have discovered we live next to a farm! There are horses and cows that we visit while out on our evening scooter walks. Sometimes they are way out in the pasture, and sometimes they’re right up by the fence! They are nice and friendly. Guess we’re country folk now! There are also babies!! Another frequent visitor: And I had a huge buck in my backyard a few weeks ago! Here’s my morning view, which I am obsessed with. I’m trying to have my coffee outside rather than at a computer.

Beast Blender Review: The Beast Mega 1200 Plus
I’ve been using the Beast Mega 1200 Plus for a while now and it’s completely changed my morning smoothie routine. Here’s my honest review — what I love, what to know before you buy, and why I think it’s worth it. Disclosure: Beast sent me this blender to review. This past spring I accidentally slammed my glass blender into the countertop and chipped it leaving a sharp glass edge sticking out – not exactly safe.

Life post gum graft surgery – UGH! ^^ How I’ve spent most of the week. Last Wednesday I had to get a gum graft for a receding lower gum line. They took gum from the roof of my mouth and stitched it to the lower gum line. The actual procedure wasn’t that bad. I was expecting huge needles and lots of blood, but the needles were tiny and painless, and I never tasted blood! It wasn’t as bad as having a cavity drilled.
