Receipt from the Bookshop

Hello! My monthly round-up posts are for paid subscribers. Today it’s my TV and film round-up. I think, if you’d asked me when I was younger, what a dream job might be - a film/TV critic would have been right up there. And, look - now I am one! Self-employed, self-published, self-deprecating. Urgh, that doesn’t sound like how I imagined it at all, but here we are.

I got chills! (should have brought a jumper) Good Morning! It’s VERY WINDY TODAY. I’m starting with the door open but we’ll see how long it lasts. Cold, I can endure, but if the wind keeps bumping the door into the wall then I will have to close it. 100% Autumn today. I’ve got proper lace-up shoes and real socks today, no sliver of ankle to catch the breeze, bye-bye ballerinas, it’s serious school-shoe time! Oh, it’s suddenly absolutely chucking it down.

Mild at Heart Gooood Morning! It’s Friday, it’s Receipt from the Bookshop day, totally normal. An ordinary day. Nothing special is happening. Nothing is weird. The more I say it, the less true it sounds. A completely unremarkable morning. Now it sounds like a novel where everything is about to go wrong. Let’s hope I’m not in a novel! Not that one, anyway. It’s just a mild sort of day, ok? Some days are mild! Will sales be mild? I suppose that’s preferable to a lot of other things.

Friday’s Receipt from the Bookshop is always free, but paid subscribers get an additional post every week with reviews, round-ups, discussions and, like today, a book club post. A paid subscription is £3.50 a month, or £30 a year. Morning Friends, how are we all? Stupid to ask that, really, isn’t it? What are you meant to do - shout your replies to the monitor? A chorus of “Fine, thanks” with one or two saying “well, actually…”. Absolutely pointless of me to ask, let’s move on. A cool autumnal day here today, door is open but the cardigan is momentarily off because I had loads of heavy stuff to carry in and now I’m warm.

Good Morning to all and to all a good morning. It’s a crispy Friday morning here on the Fylde Coast, but the wind is escorting some showers our way so while we can bask in this temporary pumpkin spice moment, it won’t be too long before we’ve all got wet hems again. I’ve brought my first additional emergency cardigan of the year, and a nice hot lunch to look forward to.
