President Scott Pegau called the meeting to order, with board members, station staff, and several community members in attendance at the at the Valdez Senior Center and via Zoom. This year brought significant challenges and accomplishments for the station, including loss of the AM tower, transition to FM 91.3 service in Valdez, loss of CPB funding, multiple board resignations, and a change in accounting firms. The search for a new General Manager is still underway.

KCHU, the voice of Prince William Sound and the Copper River Valley since 1980, is seeking an innovative and visionary General Manager to lead our station into the future. Located in the beautiful coastal town of Valdez, Alaska, KCHU is a vital community resource committed to informing, educating, entertaining, and engaging listeners across the region.

The 2025 KCHU Annual Meeting has been rescheduled from October 6 to Monday, November 10th. At that meeting, we will count ballots and welcome new members to the Board of Directors. STEP RIGHT UP and serve on the KCHU Board! We need candidates—four Board seats are open this year. The Board of Directors makes the key decisions that shape the future of the station, especially in these challenging times of reduced funding.

KCHU Public Radio must share the news that our AM broadcast tower at the historic Old Town transmitter site has been taken down due to urgent safety concerns. Over time, coastal erosion caused the guy-wire anchors that stabilized our AM tower to shift. One anchor became submerged and was sinking, leading to a dangerous increase of tension. The tower developed permanent bends and began leaning precariously toward Port Valdez.

KCHU AM 770 has gone dark—but the good news is that FM 91.3 is now broadcasting in Valdez! Thanks to the skill and determination of James Devans, who mounted a new FM antenna on the shorter tower behind the station and connected it to a transmitter inside the building, we now have a surprisingly strong and clear FM signal. Reception is solid from Keystone Canyon all the way out Valdez Arm to Point Freemantle.

Job Descripton Part-Time On-Air Staff This is a part-time position, primarily to work on the air during regular KCHU news breaks, with a regular schedule as well as on-call to fill in for other staff as needed. Training and support will be provided. Other duties are dependent on need and on the hiree’s abilities and interests. Hours: Up to 20 hours per week as needed, with extra hours if necessary to fill in for other staff.
