Keep Cool

Hey there, Thanks for the patience on this one; been a bit busier of late and anticipate being so for much of the summer and fall. As such, I may start sending the news roundups on a biweekly versus weekly basis. TBD. Figured I’d still get this one out as there’s notable movement on the Iran war and its impact on oil market dislocations, plus some sunnier updates on solar power as it continues ‘eating the world,’ as the saying goes. All that and more below.

Hello hello, Sadly I did not succeed in spotting a jaguar last week in Belize, but night hikes in the jungle were still replete with scorpions, tarantulas, toads and frogs, possums, many a bird, and much more. In lieu of a successful jaguar sighting, what I can offer four more new poems of mine, published in various online lit mags → here, here, here, and here.

Hi there, Happy June. I’m writing to you from the jungle in Belize, where I’m happily camped out in a hut for a week. Nice to slow things down a bit and turn inward a bit. Wish me luck this week as I make efforts to see a jaguar; that’s my main goal this week; i’ll report back. Hey folks, Hope all those in the U.S. had a great Memorial Day Weekend. I’m back in New York for a bit for work and to catch up with some folks before I get back on the international travel circuit with my next destination being Belize. I’m sure I’ll learn some cool stuff about susatainability out there, particularly / at minimum on the conservation front. I’ll report back. Plenty to catch up on from the past week in energy, climate tech, and sustainability news, so let’s hop right into it today. • Chinese domination of clean and climate tech supply chains is accelerating amidst the ongoing war in Iran and the pressure it has put on international oil and gas prices; exports of solar, batteries, and EVs reached a record 68 GW in March, according to Ember. Link.

Hurricane Helene, which wreaked unprecedented damage (both in scope and location) in regions more than four hundred miles inland in North Carolina, makes landfall on September 26, 2024. Building codes have been strengthened, evacuation systems refined, forecasting windows extended and made more precise.

Hey, It was a great SF climate week. Paul Gambill’s roundup of the Stabilize Earth event does it better justice than I could do in brief here, and we launched the Arctic Stabilization Initiative on Tuesday. Climate systems in the Arctic are approaching critical tipping points and there is no coordinated, system-level plan to prepare for and respond to these risks. The Arctic Stabilization Initiative (ASI), a new stage-gated research program, has raised $6.5 million to advance the research needed to assess the safety, efficacy, and feasibility of Arctic-targeted climate interventions.
