If you're like me, you're always looking for new things coming to Deep East Texas. It's even more exciting when it's something unique that we don't already have one - or more - of yet. Well, one of those unique things is on the way to Lufkin, and it's getting closer to being a reality. If you've driven around the east loop in Lufkin, around Flamingo Bingo recently, you may have noticed some construction work going on.

WASHINGTON - The mystery surrounding UFOs just got another major update. The Pentagon has released its fourth batch of declassified UFO files, giving the public access to dozens of additional documents, videos, images, and audio recordings tied to unexplained sightings spanning almost eight decades. The new batch of UFO, or UAP, files are certainly interesting, but there's video of one strange object included in the files that seems to really have people talking.

LOUISIANA - Standing in line at the checkout could eventually become a thing of the past, at least if Dollar General's latest experiment proves successful. Dollar General is testing a completely cashier-less shopping experience at one of its stores, giving customers the ability to walk in, grab what they need, and leave without ever scanning a single item.

At this point, you have undoubtedly heard about the cyclospora outbreak that's been sweeping the nation and Texas. No, it's not COVID, and it's not killing people, but it is definitely causing some issues that aren't so fun. Over 1,000 cases have been reported so far, and it's caused a lot of restaurants to start pulling items from their menus. A lot of the cases have been linked back to produce items, but there is something else that is now being linked to, and it's not fun.

Shreveport’s premier pop culture event, Geek'd Con, is officially set to return to the Shreveport Convention Center this summer. The 11th installment of the massive three-day convention will take place in Downtown Shreveport from August 14th through the 16th, 2026. The event serves as the largest gathering of its kind in North Louisiana, and one of the biggest in the whole state. Geek'd Con offers a weekend of celebrity appearances, professional photo ops, and a massive vendor market.

If you drive by Texas Roadhouse in Lufkin on Wednesday evening, July 22, and see several fire trucks and numerous firefighters at the restaurant, it's not because they're responding to a big fire there. On Thursday evening, July 23, if you see a gathering of Lufkin Police vehicles and uniformed officers at Texas Roadhouse, it's not some sort of big bust or dangerous situation happening there. In fact, you should treat this as an invitation to a very 'special' event.

College isn't for everyone. That's just a fact. And just because you don't have a four-year college degree doesn't mean you can't be successful. That's another fact. Well, once of the local HVAC companies in Deep East Texas is launching a new program for students that would rather go right to work after graduation. According to a post shared by the Anderson's A/C & Heating Facebook page, the folks there are already in the process of launching what they're calling the Anderson Trade Academy.

Nope, NOT El Paso, (at least not in the top 40 anyway), we're too chill for that. San Antonio is the most stressed Texas city, just making the top 20, at #20. Texas is, (overall, I guess), pretty mellow in terms of stress. We did make the "most stressed" list but avoided the top 20. (Except San Antonio.) No other Texas city pops up until you hit the 30's and El Paso is in the 40's - #45 to be exact Wallethub just released a list of the most stressed cities in the USA and Texas had a fair showing.
