Looks like an eight pound burrito is going viral in Wichita Falls and if you were unaware of this food challenge. I consider it the hardest in town. Looks like someone posted a photo of the Gutierrez Family Restaurant 'Monster Burrito' in the Wichita Falls Rants and Raves page yesterday. Several people have tagged me in this thing and I have failed miserably at it before. If I'm being truthful with myself, I maybe ate 40% of this thing.

In a major consolidation of the northwest Louisiana gaming market, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board on Thursday approved unanimously, the purchase of Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport, owned by Boyd Gaming Corporation, to Bally's Corporation.

They know him pretty well in Owl country, and now you will too. This week's Community Rockstar is Darren Cook. Darren is the head boys' basketball coach in Chireno.

The SFA Gardens have been putting a lot of extra effort into their sculpture game recently, especially with the return of the Sculpture in the SFA Gardens where artists have their work on display. However, the gardens just received a donated sculpture from one of the Nacogdoches churches, and people have been discussing the history behind it. A picture was posted to the SFA Gardens Facebook page showing a large, metal sculpture of a tree, complete with dangling metal leaves.

Texans are facing rising gas prices again this week. Many hoped last week was a fluke, and prices would trend downward again, but unfortunately, prices rose again. According to AAA Texas, gas prices in Texas are up 13 cents from last week, with the average price per gallon at $3.55. We're paying 76 more cents than last year. With back-to-school on the horizon, the extra money Texans have to shell out for gas is going to hurt their bottom lines.

Being a firefighter was never on my list of dreams when I was growing up. I've got nothing against them. In fact, I'm a huge fan of firemen. It just wasn't something that I saw myself doing and still don't. But that's a job that we NEED people to do, most definitely. Well, it looks like Lufkin is getting ready to add more of those interested, needed people to its ranks.

They don't dwell on it. No hard feelings or anything, the battle for Texas' independence from Mexico just isn't as big of a deal to them as it is to us. Mexico has many reasons to totally rue the day they lost Texas. That's not the reason why they tend to jump over that moment in history classes though. It's because they were busy.

A new place has opened in DeSoto Parish to help victims who are facing trauma in their lives. The Justin Center is now open for business in Mansfield. This is a one stop shop for families and children who are dealing with a crisis in their lives. I was planning to write this to let the public know about this amazing place, but I want you know how special this day was for me.
