More than 300 resources from Alberta Wildfire have been deployed to British Columbia this summer, helping battle out-of-control wildfires. The resources include personnel from Alberta’s Northwest, with Slave Lake Information Officer Jody Lucius and Peace River Information Officer Tannis McNabb among those deployed to B.C. Alberta’s relatively quiet fire season made it possible to send those resources west, while also giving crews valuable experience.

An investment of nearly $40 million from the federal and provincial governments in the Mercer Pulp Mill in Peace River is being called a major win for the community. Peace River MLA Dan Williams, says the work on the announcement had been happening for several months. “Because of global market conditions, tariffs and the changing dynamics when it comes to fibre supply, Mercer was really behind the 8-ball as a mill.

Alberta Health Services has issued a boil water advisory for the Little Burnt River Water Co-Op. The advisory follows a loss of pressure in the system caused by a water line leak. The system serves some residences between the Municipal District of Fairview and Clear Hills County. Residents and businesses are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking or using it for brushing teeth, preparing food, infant formula or juices, or making ice.

The North Peace Navigators will not be playing in this upcoming NWJHL season. A statement from the teams board of directors says they are requesting a leave of absence for the 2026-27 season due to a lack of players. The organization will continue to operate and will be rebuilding their player recruitment model so they can return to play for the 2027-28 season.

High Prairie RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting earlier this year. On March 31st, officers responded to a report of a shooting in High Prairie, where a young male was shot. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. As part of their ongoing investigation, RCMP have now obtained a photo of the suspect. However, police and nearby law-enforcement agencies have so far been unable to identify the individual.

Ahead of the launch of her sold-out Paris residency this fall, Céline Dion has shared the song “Bonjour, Pardon, Merci,” marking her second original release this year. The song, written by French Lebanese singer-songwriter Ycare, was released alongside an animated lyric video, created by Chinese Canadian motion artist Yoho Yue. Check it out: HERE. Sheryl Crow and John Legend will headline the musical lineup for CBS’ inaugural “America’s Tailgate on CBS,” a new two-hour special celebrating the start of the NFL season. The Nashville-based event will air Monday, Sept. 7, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+, with Chase Rice and Gabby Barrett also set to perform. The special will be hosted by Nate Burleson, the CBS Sports and “CBS Mornings” personality, with CBS Sports’ Melanie Collins serving as co-host.

The Town of Grimshaw is bringing in outside help to strengthen bylaw enforcement. Council has approved a one-year trial agreement with Integrated Municipal Support, or IMS, beginning this fall. IMS, a division of Apex Security, will provide a trained bylaw officer, dedicated vehicle and equipment, as well as municipal support services.

A fatal collision on Highway 2 near Spirit River is under investigation. Spirit River RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision shortly after 3:10 Tuesday afternoon, involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck. EMS and STARS Air Ambulance also attended the scene. Police say the driver of the pickup, a 41-year-old man from Grande Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the pickup suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by STARS for treatment.

The Town of Falher is warning residents of an upcoming water service interruption as crews carry out emergency repairs to a water valve on the east side of town. The repairs are scheduled for Thursday, September third, with affected properties expected to be without water from approximately nine a.m. until four p.m. The Town says an estimated outline of the affected area is available online for residents to reference.
