The Sports Beat programs from RadioOnTheGo Sports aired Saturday, presented on 104.9 KLMJ by Mort’s Water Company and on 99 The Wave by Brother’s Market in Parkersburg and Grundy Center. This week’s programs featured interviews with some softball players from Clarksville and North Butler after winning their regional finals on Monday night and qualifying for the state tournament.

A free program for adults will be held Monday evening at the Union Public Library, featuring author Sharrie Burggraff. The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will focus on Burggraff’s Women of Purpose book series. During the discussion, she will share the inspiration behind the books and talk about how they are designed to encourage and support women who have experienced traumatic events in their lives.

One person suffered minor injuries Friday afternoon in a vehicle-versus-tractor accident northwest of Sheffield. According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 12:15 p.m. to the intersection of 110th Street and Nettle Avenue.

The BCLUW School Board will hold its regular meeting Monday beginning at 5 p.m. in the High School Media Center. Several items related to the upcoming school year are on the agenda. Board members are expected to consider approval of the district’s student handbooks, which outline school policies, expectations, and procedures for students and families. The board will also discuss and consider pay rates for substitute teachers as the district continues preparing for the new academic year.

The Belmond City Council will meet Monday evening with several action items on its agenda. Council members will revisit a request from Dennis and Pam Trausch seeking permission to keep bees within the city. The council is also expected to consider a resolution authorizing approximately $7.545 million in Sewer Revenue Capital Loan Notes and approving a loan and disbursement agreement with the Iowa Finance Authority.

A Marshalltown man is facing seven criminal charges, including four felony counts, after authorities say he fired a handgun during an argument Wednesday at a home on East Church Street. According to a criminal complaint, 44-year-old Josh Warnell became involved in a verbal dispute with another person. Investigators say Warnell left the residence, then returned armed with a pistol. He allegedly displayed the firearm before firing a single shot into the floor of the home.

With above-normal temperatures expected to continue through Monday, local health officials are reminding residents to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke before they become life-threatening. Nancy Retz, EMS Manager at Franklin General Hospital, tells RadioOnTheGo News everyone should be aware of the risks of heat-related illnesses during periods of hot weather.

Funeral service for 56-year-old Valerie Smith, formerly of Iowa Falls, will be Monday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Burial will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery, rural Ackley. Visitation will be Sunday, July 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. The Conrad Public Library is offering two free programs for adults and high school-age students over the next two weeks. The first program will be held Monday at 4:30 p.m. and features a guest presenter from Iowa State Archaeology. The presentation will explore what the state of Iowa looked like during the Ice Age, giving attendees an opportunity to learn about the region’s ancient landscape, wildlife, and early history.

Beginning on Monday motorists in Wright County will be affected by a construction project that could take months to complete. Iowa Department of Transportation officials say the project to replace the bridge over Eagle Creek on Iowa Highway 3 between Clarion and Goldfield will begin July 20, with an expected completion date of Nov. 15, weather permitting.
