The former capital of the Inca Empire is known for its archaeological treasures, Spanish colonial architecture and bustling tourism industry, all set high in the Andes Mountains at roughly 11,000 feet above sea level. Venture beyond the city limits, though, and life can look much different.

The City of Kimball will be chlorinating the main water tank on the morning of Wednesday, July 22, 2026, due to routine maintenance. There will possibly be a small residual of chlorine taste and/or smell for approximately 1 week. The water will be safe to use for drinking, cooking and cleaning as usual. Catching up on the legion baseball scene for the weekend the WESTCO Zephyrs have been eliminated from the A7 Seniors Tournament in Grand Island after losses on back to back days. On Friday afternoon the Z’s lost to Kearney 13-2 and then on Saturday it was a crushing 3-2 loss to Grand Island U-Save. The Z’s got a great start out of Owen Latham, who completed six innings and struck out seven and allowed just one run on two hits without walking a batter.

For 10 Eastern Wyoming College students, history came alive this summer during a two-week journey through some of the American Southwest’s most significant Indigenous and archaeological sites. Students shared their experiences with the Eastern Wyoming College Board of Trustees during its July 14 meeting, describing how the college’s HIST 2460 History Field Experience transformed classroom learning into firsthand discovery.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Scottsbluff Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 7th Ave in reference to a possible stabbing victim. The victim was transported to Regional West Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of a single stab wound to the torso. The investigation found this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. The investigation is still active and further information may be released at a later time.

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol found several alcohol-related violations during a special enforcement effort around Oregon Trail Days in Scotts Bluff County. Troopers arrested five people for impaired driving during the weekend event. In addition to the five arrests for driving under the influence, troopers also issued citations for open alcohol containers (7) and minors in possession of alcohol (6).

The Eastern Wyoming College Board of Trustees received an inspiring presentation from students who participated in a recent Southwest exploration field study, approved several personnel actions, and heard updates on enrollment, campus construction, cybersecurity and athletic facility improvements during its regular meeting Tuesday, July 14, in the Dolores Kaufman Board Room on the Torrington campus.

Scottsbluff city leaders have unveiled a proposed $94.9 million budget for fiscal year 2027, a large increase over the current budget, driven largely by the proposed $25 million aquatics center project. The spending plan includes several highlights. The budget invests more than $40 million in capital improvements, including nearly $38 million for infrastructure, buildings and other facilities, along with proposed bonds for street projects and the aquatics center, pending voter approval.

The Department of Health and Human Services is investigating a child neglect case after daycare staff inadvertently left a student in a van while the rest of the group went to the pool. KNEB News has learned that the incident occurred last week under the watch of Kids First Day Care at Vine United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff.
