Collin Morlock, with Cameron McGill opening, performed at The One World in Downtown Moscow on Saturday, April 4. Cameron McGill has a classic look. Scruff on his jaw, an old worn cap, a folkie’s boots, and a torn denim jacket with pins on the lapel. His rough, lithe voice floated through the coffee shop. He is an animated singer: shaking his head and bending his knees to the beat, contorting his face in a way that makes the music much more emotional. An addictive performer.
In Cue: Treefort 2026
I’m writing this with the ink from the underage “Xs” still on my hands. Treefort puts on a good show and makes Boise look really good. I swear to you my dear reader I heard a man (with thick round glasses, but in a cool way) say, “I feel like I’m in New York.” Really! It’s true! The concrete flower wells outside of Julia Davis Park were piled high with bicycles, and the new green bike lanes were used the whole weekend.
Miles Davis’ Career with Columbia Records Between 1955-59
If there’s ever a place to listen to good jazz, it’s at the Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island. Since its founding in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival has showcased many of jazz’s most influential artists, from Louis Armstrong to Kamasi Washington. There have been several memorable years that could be talked about at length, one being the festival’s second year, 1955. 1955 would unknowingly mark a turning point for jazz, perhaps not stylistically, but in who the world looked to for direction.
Reside / Summer Salt (2025)
The kings of reverb are back with their newest album release, Reside, which dropped on November 7th. This is their eighth full-length album if you count their remastering of their debut EP, Driving to Hawaii. Being a long-time Summer Salt fan, I had been waiting for this album’s release when it was first announced earlier this year. Reside is full of odes to their signature, distinct sound of heavily reverbed electric guitars, thumpy bass tones, 1-6-2-5 progressions, and falsetto vocals.
Whistler / Luke Herrin (2025)
REVIEW WRITTEN BY KEVAN MITCHELL (Host of “All Things Alt”) Whistler is a new EP released by artist Luke Herrin on January 12th. This is the first EP released by Herrin, with his other releases being two singles and an album titled Colors Today. This EP was released after teasers of it appeared on Herrin’s personal Instagram, hyping up all of the people who know him and like his music.
Burnout Days / flipturn (2025)
REVIEW WRITTEN BY KEVAN MITCHELL (Host of “All Things Alt”) Burnout Days is flipturn’s new album, released on January 24th. They released the news of this new drop with a song from the album, Rodeo Clown. After this, they released two more singles from the album, Juno and Sunlight. In my opinion, they did a great job building up the album’s hype with all of the singles they dropped leading up to the release. This album is only flipturn’s second studio album and does not disappoint in the slightest.
KUOI Wrapped 2024
As would be expected of a college radio station all of our staff members have received their Spotify wrapped for this past year and thought it would be fun to share the diversity that KUOI 89.3 FM has in their music tastes. To kick us off our Station Manager, Mackenzie Davidson, had Caamp as her top artist followed by Maggie Rogers, Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Seed of a Seed / Haley Heynderickx (2024)
REVIEW WRITTEN BY KEVAN MITCHELL (Host of “All Things Alt”) Seed of a Seed is Haley Heynderickx’s new album, released on November 1. This album was a long time coming, as she announced it on her tour with Nickel Creek and Andrew Bird in the summer of 2024. I am happy to say that I was able to see her in concert and get a first-hand listen to some of the songs in this album. This album shares some of the sounds of Heynderickx’s previous albums but prides itself on being unique.
Forces of Nature: Live at Slugs’ / McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson (2024)
In 1966, pianist McCoy Tyner, saxophonist Joe Henderson, bassist Henry Grimes, and drummer Jack DeJohnette came together to perform at Slugs’ Saloon in New York City. Slugs’ was a well-known club in the area that shut down after the murder of trumpeter Lee Morgan took place there in the early hours of February 19, 1972. Regardless, Slugs’ hosted lots of great music, and when Blue Note Records announced they were releasing unheard tapes of the previously mentioned artists, I was extremely excited.
The Old Country (Live at the Deer Head Inn) / Keith Jarrett (2024)
The Old Country (Live at the Deer Head Inn) is Keith Jarrett’s newest release featuring Gary Peacock on the upright bass and Paul Motian on the drums. Jarrett’s trio, which usually features Jack DeJohnette on drums, has been touring and recording together for decades. The trio on this album, however, does not disappoint. It is an album of jazz standards, though the way in which this trio approaches each standard is what makes this album especially interesting.
