Jefferson City Police detectives are investigating a body found in the Missouri River Friday afternoon. Police say they received a report Friday about an individual floating face down near the Noren river access in north Jefferson City. Police chief Eric Wilde tells 939 the Eagle that nothing is confirmed yet on an identity. Chief Wilde tells us police are working leads right now.

Barring intervention from the U.S. Supreme Court, Missouri voters will cast ballots in November on a referendum which will ask if they accept or reject the congressional map approved by the GOP-controlled Legislature in September 2025. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe (R) signed that map into law.

The man accused of providing Fentanyl that led to an overdose death now faces federal charges. Bryan Thomas of Jefferson City is charged with three counts of distributing the drug, one case leading to the death of the victim. Thomas was initially charged with two counts of dealing the drug.

The head of Missouri’s GOP party is calling on the party’s nominee for the 161st district state rep. race to drop out of the November election. Federal charges are filed against Thomas Ross who’s accused of telling his campaign manager to plant cocaine and Adderall in his opponent Republican Louise Secker’s car. Ross is now jailed in Joplin.

There may be more ‘room at the inn’ after all. Jefferson City’s Salvation Army Center of Hope shelter is expanding. The remodel will double their bed capacity to 62 – beds. The $6 – million project will also include a new family wing and a much larger food pantry. The construction should be done by the end of the year.

Cole County gets a new Emergency Management Director. Mac Kennedy, the current Deputy Director, moves into the top job. Director Sam Gibson is moving back to an EMS role. Kennedy also serves as the Communications Chief for Cole EMS and the county’s Hazmat team.

A decades – old Cole County murder case is back in courtroom next week. William Chris Niemet of Fulton is accused of killing his Russellville classmate Greg Jones back in 1991. A Cole County judge recently dismissed the case only to see the Attorney General order the case be reinstated. Both the victim and the suspect were only 14 at the time of the murder.
