UK to receive $30 million to renovate campus
President of the University of Kentucky, Eli Capilouto, said the General Assembly has decided to grant UK funds for “asset preservation.” On April 15, legislators chose to restore the reductions proposed to UK’s budget according to a campus-wide email. This means the university’s budget will remain the same for the next two years. A state budget was proposed previously which would have cut UK funding by 2-3% according to former Kentucky Kernel reporting.
Emmi Scales leads the way for Kentucky women’s track and field
Kentucky track and field shone brightly in Austin, Texas, during the Texas Relays with multiple event wins, consistently remaining strongest in the women’s hurdles. Emmi Scales led the pack, landing herself in 11th place in the women’s 400-meter hurdles on her first day of the event, then winning both 100-meter races the following two days. The junior has stacked on breakthrough races the entire season, and continues to do so with just three events left in the regular season.
Can Kentucky softball salvage its 2026 SEC slate?
Kentucky Softball (24-22, 1-17 SEC) dropped its eighth straight SEC series, capping off its most recent showdown against No. 10 Tennessee (37-6, 12-6 SEC) with a 10-3 loss. The Wildcats have shown throughout the season that they are not up to speed with the other SEC programs. In conference play, they are at a 156-37 run deficit overall. They have been run-ruled or shut out in more than half of their conference games. The gap is evident.

Kentucky softball (24-22, 1-17 SEC) got swept for the fifth straight weekend, losing 10-3 to No. 10 Tennessee (37-6, 12-6 SEC) in the final matchup of a three-game series. Panic and pressure are sure to be setting in after the Wildcats dropped their 17th-straight conference game. Kentucky’s pitching staff have been consistently unable to find a rhythm as it suffered another weekend getting outscored by a landslide – this time by the Lady Vols, who outscored the Wildcats 21-3.
Kentucky softball drops 16th straight SEC game in 6-0 loss to Tennessee
Kentucky softball (24-21, 1-16 SEC) fell 6-0 to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers (36-6, 11-6 SEC) after a late game surge. The Wildcats extended their SEC losing streak to 16 games due to lack of run support for the Lexington native, and starting pitcher, Abby Hammond. Hammond was coming off a stellar performance on against Morehead State, going the distance and all seven innings in the shutout win.
Kentucky softball no-hit in 5-0 loss to No. 10 Tennessee
Kentucky softball (24-20, 1-15 SEC) dropped its 15th consecutive conference game to No. 10 Tennessee (35-6, 10-6 SEC) by a score of 5-0 in a hard-fought pitcher’s duel. The Wildcats had to face off against the reigning back-to-back SEC Pitcher of the Year, Karlyn Pickens, and it did not go well for them. Pickens sliced right through the Kentucky lineup, throwing a complete game no hitter, while striking out 12. The Cats had no answer for Pickens’ fastball that consistently sat around 77 mph.

Head coach Mark Pope and Kentucky men’s basketball reeled in its first transfer commitment Wednesday evening with four-star point guard Zoom Diallo, who announced that he would be transferring to UK after spending two seasons with the Washington Huskies. The news broke just hours after Pope missed out on Rob Wright III, the No. 1-ranked point guard in the transfer portal, who returned to BYU following a visit to UK’s campus on April 13.
UKPD flies drones for security during Turning Point USA event
The University of Kentucky Police Department used drones during a UK Turning Point USA “Pick Up the Mic” event after saying the drones would only be used for active pursuit or responding to incidents. The UKPD drone was flying above the Hilltop Avenue Garage, looking over the “bowl” of the William T. Young Library, where a Turning Point USA event was taking place Wednesday, April 15.
