Happy spring! Or is it? Here in Ohio it is hard to tell, one day it is 70F (21C) and the next it is 25F (-3C). Bright, warm, and sunny switches to cold and snowing with big wind gusts. As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather wait a minute and it will be different. Or some variation of that. A favorite past time of mine, as long as I have had a drivers license, is jumping in the car and driving the country roads.

One of the towns I visited while in Tuscany was Siena. A beautiful town with a rich history, first settled in the time of the Etruscans (c. 900–400 BC) when it was inhabited by a tribe called the Saina. They still hold The Palio, which is a traditional medieval horse race run around the Piazza del Campo twice each year. The documentary about this race is a fascinating watch, it goes into the history of the race, the training, its superstars and the corruption involved.

This edition of the photolog has been a long time coming, this trip was from June of 2022. It has taken me some time to get back to these photos and pull all my thoughts together around this trip. There is quite a bit to go through so there will be a part two. It all started with an email newsletter from Sean Tucker, a photographer, a YouTuber and an author, with the gift of inspiring others.

I am looking out the window as I write this, watching the snow come down with a warm cup of coffee in hand. I have a new album playing in the background, 12 by Ryuichi Sakamoto (Apple / Spotify). It is all very picturesque and tranquil. My first thought is, this looks like more snow than what the forecast called for, but my deeper thought is that I hope there aren’t many more days like this. I do like how fresh snow looks and enjoy watching it come down.

Catching up on some of the trips and photos from 2022 has me stopping in the city of Columbus. Have you heard of the movie Columbus (2017)? (You can actually watch it for free on YouTube currently) It is an independent movie and when I first saw the name of the movie I thought it must be Columbus, Ohio. However, it is about Columbus, Indiana, which I will admit I didn’t even know existed.

Whew, made it to 2023! I will start by saying the last quarter of 2022 was not great. Multiple things collided and sidelined me. However, being down and out from illness and injuries gave me time to focus and make decisions about some changes I have been thinking about. I have had a busy few months working at the Co-op that I am a member/owner of (more on this in a minute) and there was also quite a bit of travel. Columbus, Indiana, Union Pier, Michigan, and just recently Denver, Colorado. Along with numerous events that have been in the area, my camera and I have been getting a work out! Boulder, Colorado, Flat Iron Mountains in the background.

Hi! It has been a bit since I have gotten a newsletter out but that doesn't mean there haven't been things happening. June was a very busy month, it started with a creative retreat to the Tuscan country side which was just the recharge I needed. The other big item is that I am working on a new website and part of that is I am switching to doing the prints myself. This will allow me to have a greater control over the costs, media and the quality of the prints.
