A Consultant Editor at MacLehose Press and a trustee of Lancaster Literature Festival (LitFest) and of the Cultural Philanthropy Foundation, he was Senior Commissioning Editor at Bloomsbury for 15 years and previously worked for the Harvill Press, Allison & Busby and John Calder.

Pro-Chancellor Alistair Burt with Chancellor's medallist Jack Tallentire who is one of the 50 new doctors staying in the north-west Lancaster University has graduated 150 medical students this year, which is the largest ever number since the Medical School was established in 2006. In addition, a third of these are staying in the north-west for postgraduate training which enables local hospitals to fill empty posts after struggling to recruit enough trainees in previous years.

Anne Charnock, whose career has also taken in environmental science, fine art and journalism, is a distinguished science writer who has written for the Guardian, New Scientist, the Financial Times, as well as the Herald Tribune and Geographical. Much of her early journalism has informed her creative writing.

A new history graduate living with autism and severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has praised Lancaster University’s ‘transformative’ support and encouragement in securing a scholarship to the USA. Phoebe Teasdale, 21, credits the University, and in particular Senior Lecturer in History Dr Nicholas Radburn, for initiating the ‘domino effect’ from the Fulbright scholarship programme, from which she won a Study of the US Institutes (SUSI) award on environmental issues.
