The Grand Valley Lanthorn is the student-run newspaper for Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. The Lanthorn is printed twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays during the academic year (Late August through April). It is not printed over academic breaks, and there are typically two issues over the summer months. The "Lanthorn" prints 8,000 copies per individual publication and also operates its own website. Spring Concert goes ‘All The Way’ with BigXthaPlug
Campus Activities Board (CAB) reinstated Grand Valley State University’s Spring Concert Friday evening, featuring headlining artist BigXthaPlug and additional guest performances. Held in the Fieldhouse Arena, the event drew hundreds of attendees into the packed venue. While BigXthaPlug served as the focal point of the concert, DJ Q89 provided beats, chants and mixing for the audience. Softball swept by Bulldogs in tight rivalry matchups
The Grand Valley State University softball team (18-18) dropped both games of its rivalry doubleheader against Ferris State University (24-16) Saturday in Big Rapids, falling 6-5 in eight innings in game one before losing 7-5 in game two, despite building early leads in both contests. Across the doubleheader, the Lakers consistently generated offense and controlled stretches of play, but late-game rallies from Ferris State prevented GVSU from closing out either matchup.
No charges, no change following Da’Quain Johnson murder
The long wait for justice in the wake of the police murder of Da’Quain Johnson came to an abrupt and disappointing end earlier this month on Thursday, April 2. After weeks of protest and calls from Johnson’s family and the Grand Rapids community, Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker decided not to pursue charges against the officer who stole Johnson’s life in February.
