June 29, 2026 We meet six inspirational cycling women who can now say that there’s one of London’s iconic hire bikes out there with their name on it... To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, TfL asked Santander hire bike users to nominate those women who they felt had done the most to inspire and help others access cycling. Of the more than 150 nominations received, eight women currently cycling in London were chosen to have a Santander bike named after them.
Many London Cyclist readers will be familiar with the idea of bike buses, but for the uninitiated can you explain what they are? A bike bus is a group of kids and adults riding to school together, on a set route with planned stops, just like a traditional school bus, except on bikes. It usually runs regularly, not just as a one-time event. When and where did you start your original bus and how many kids joined in?
Lime, the London Cycling Campaign and LOUD Mobility have announced the 31 new community groups funded in the sixth round of their ‘Share The Joy Community Fund’ grant scheme. The Share The Joy Community Fund is a partnership initiative from LCC and Lime with support from LOUD Mobility. It was created to award grants to projects and community groups that help encourage more people to cycle in London, with a focus on improving Health and Wellbeing, Accessibility & Inclusion or Skills & Connectivity.

Did you know that in your borough right now, there are LCC volunteers working tirelessly to bring safer cycling infrastructure to the area and get more people out on two (or more) wheels? Most LCC members interact with their local group in the form of a ride or event, or perhaps by emailing about a particular issue you’d like investigated.
The Mayor of London, TfL, London’s councils and the Met Police have today released a joint Vision Zero Action Plan 2. This follows Sadiq’s commitment in 2018 to a ‘Vision Zero’ of eliminating serious and fatal collisions from London’s roads by 2041. ‘Vision Zero’ being the term used internationally for cities working towards and reaching the point of having no such collisions each year. LCC has spent years campaigning for more road danger reduction action from the Mayor, Tfl and the Met Police.
Today, LCC has launched a major new report on the “Broken Locks, Brokent Promises” around London’s cycle theft epidemic, and the government, Mayor and particularly Police response to it, backed by both a survey of nearly 2,000 London cyclists on their experience on theft and a new petition demanding action. While you can buy any one of a thousand bikes online for delivery next week, there is a mysterious attraction in ordering, or building, a custom cycle frame from scratch and adding your choice of components. Despite the ready availability of low-cost performance cycles, a handful of framebuilders (and bike-building tutors) survive in London and they have a loyal following among fans of locally built exotica.
