The Lincoln County High School girls volleyball team played three pool play matches on Friday, Aug. 28 and four more tournament matches on Saturday before unwinding at  the UNLV/Nebraska volleyball games in Las Vegas. The tournament featured skilled, out-of-state teams with a lot of depth. Some teams had rosters twice the size of Lincoln County’s. One of those teams, the Beckman (Cali.) Patriots, nearly dropped the first set to LCHS on Friday, but ultimately prevailed 26-24.

Pioche’s Labor Day celebration will offer more than competitions, parades and longtime traditions this weekend, with live music and a look back at Nevada’s movie history adding to the entertainment Sept. 4-5. The weekend’s live entertainment begins Friday night at the Overland Hotel & Saloon, where Fast Eddie will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The band will return Saturday night for a second performance during the Labor Day festivities. Both shows are for those 21 and older.

Sheriff’s Office announces major meth seizure and multiple arrests A search warrant executed at a Panaca residence Monday night resulted in the seizure of approximately 105 grams of methamphetamine, roughly a quarter pound, in what the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office described as one of the largest seizures from a local residence in recent county history.

Key funding question on the ballot this November as district begins new school year As Lincoln County students returned to classrooms last month, second-year Superintendent Matt Cameron continues to focus on three pillars: communication, consistency and accountability. In a recent interview, Cameron discussed how the district navigates various challenges, including recruiting staff, transportation, state-level funding and maintaining facilities.

A piece of Pioche’s firefighting history will open its doors to the public during Labor Day weekend as the Pioche Volunteer Fire Department shares the progress of a restoration project five years in the making. The department has been working to restore its historic firehouse on LaCour Street, a building originally constructed in 1876.

First Responders Handle 95 Calls Across Lincoln County Lincoln County first responders responded to 95 calls for service during the week of Aug. 24-30, with several noteworthy incidents involving traffic accidents, law enforcement investigations, a K9-assisted arrest and a commercial trailer fire. During a traffic stop in Pioche, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office K9 Bowie conducted an open-air sniff and gave a positive indication.
