The start of a new school year brings increased traffic around schools, with more vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and school buses sharing the road. Busy drop-off areas can become congested quickly, and drivers are reminded that a few extra seconds can help prevent a collision.
Leduc holds second round of open houses for annexation process

This was one of four open houses the city held as part of its second round of public engagement in the annexation process.
Leduc Seniors Centre launches new cookbook
• • Treats and dishes made from recipes featured in the Leduc and District Seniors Centre's new cookbook were sold at a fundraising event at Telford House, August 18. (LDSC) The community gathered at Telford House on August 18 to sample recipes from the Leduc and District Senior Centre’s new cookbook. “The Leduc and District Senior Centre wanted to honour our shared history by bringing some of our favourite recipes together in our new cookbook ‘Recipes to Share’,” the Senior Centre said.
4th annual Make A Wish tournament raises $150,000
• • BIG WISHES Leduc and Alberta ball players celebrated their favourite game, in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundations and helping kids and families during hard times, at the fourth annual Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament, August 15 and 16, at Lede Park. (Dillon Giancola photos) Leduc’s Lede Park was once again home to the Make A Wish Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament, August 15 and 16. The fourth annual tournament saw 16 teams, and 300 players, raise about $150,000.

Salem Manor raising funds for a new bladder scanner
• • Deann Bennett, CEO of Salem Manor Foundation, gratefully accepts a cheque from Leduc Legion Branch 108’s VP Dominique Vrolyk, alongside members of the Lead Team and a few residents. The funds will go toward Salem Manor's bladder scanner campaign. (supplied) Salem Manor Society in Leduc is in the midst of a critical fundraising campaign. Aimed at procuring a bladder scanner (a much-needed piece of medical equipment) and updating IV pumps, the goal is $20,000.

The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival was moved to Telford Lake just two weeks before the festival, with the city and Leduc Boat Club being excellent hosts. • • More than 400 athletes paddled their hearts out at the 30th annual Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival, August 15 and 16, at Telford Lake. The festival was moved from the North Saskatchewan River to Telford Lake just two weeks before the event, due to unprecedented rainfaill.
