Denver Men’s Soccer opens its 2026 season on Thursday, August 20 against Cal Poly at 7 pm at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. DU also begins its first season in the West Coast Conference (WCC) and has been picked to finish third in the coaches’ preseason poll. Portland and San Diego were picked #1 and #2. Denver is ranked 20th in the Top Drawer Soccer Poll to start the 2026 campaign. The Pioneers were also picked in the top-25 coaches’ association poll.
University Area Crime Continues to Drop in First Half of 2026
Reported crimes dropped significantly over the first half of 2026 in the DU local area and have continued a downward trend over the past 12-18 months. The University of Denver’s surrounding neighborhoods, University & University Park, continue to be among the safest neighborhoods in the City of Denver. The City of Denver also saw significant drops in reported crime over the past 6 months. Reports show a significant drop in crime compared to the same period in the prior year.
Will U.S. World Cup Collapse Damage College Soccer and DU?
One of the obvious observations from the USMNT’s 4-1 collapse to Belgium in the World Cup Round of 16 was the talent gap between the US and a Top 10 side. Not only did the top FIFA teams display more elite talent, but they also carried depth off the bench. Following the last World Cup held on US soil, Major League Soccer – the top professional league in the United States – was founded. Since that time, MLS teams began to identify and develop homegrown talent through club teams.
Happy 250/150 From LetsGoDU
Happy Fourth of July to all our readers around the nation and beyond. Also, as a reminder, August 1st marks 150 years of statehood for Colorado.
It’s Official – DU is a West Coast Conference Member
It’s now July 1st, and the University of Denver is now a full-fledged member of the West Coast Conference (WCC). Dan Ritchie envisioned this exact union when Denver went DI in 1999. Instead of Mavericks, Bison, and Coyotes, the Pioneers will face Pilots, Redhawks, and Waves. Most road trips will include California and Oregon instead of the Dakotas, and the competition is bound to be stiffer, particularly in golf, tennis, volleyball, and, of course, basketball.

Denver Hockey Set to Welcome Historic Incoming Class this Fall
For 11-time (and defending) national champion Denver Hockey, the phrase “the rich get richer” has never rung more true than it has already this offseason. Fresh off their somewhat improbable run to David Carle’s third NCAA title in the last five years, the Pioneers are gradually announcing (read: publicly acknowledging what has effectively been known for weeks) and welcoming what may be the best incoming freshman class in program history…at least on paper.

60 Years of Rock Concerts at DU
Back when Murray Armstrong and Willy Schaeffler were leading the Pioneers to multiple NCAA titles, rock concerts began a colorful era at the University of Denver. Legendary promoter Barry Fey began his career by booking fraternity parties at DU in 1966. Fey evidently lived for a short time at the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house on Josephine Street and brought The Association to the DU Student Union in 1966 for a fraternity party.
