Thomas Coulter of Alliance Court, Belfast, was sentenced at Laganside Crown Court on 25 June 2026 after admitting three breaches of waste management legislation. Speaking in the House of Commons, Circular Economy Minister Mary Creagh said businesses would face transition costs of just over £1.5 million between 2026 and 2029 as they adapt to the new system, alongside software costs estimated at under £39 million over a 15-year period. The costs form part of the government’s wider push to digitise waste regulation and crack down on waste crime, with ministers arguing that the financial burden will be outweighed by long-term savings and improved enforcement.

The rulings, published by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), form part of a wider investigation into green claims in the fashion retail sector. In all three cases, the ASA found that the brands had failed to make clear the basis of their environmental claims, leading consumers to believe products were made entirely from recycled or environmentally preferable materials when that was not the case.

The new fleet will consist of 21 vehicles which are partly powered by on-site solar panels.
