May 6, 2026 Three new videos about student technology fees (STF), a new checkout program of Fluke equipment, and the impact of WSU Libraries on history students and faculty highlight the major initiatives that have happened recently and the ways the libraries influence our university community. April 30, 2026 Ryan Booth calls it “the thrill of the hunt,” that moment when his WSU students visiting Terrell Library’s Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections for research find an article or some archival manuscript that really helps with their topic. He knows exactly what the students are feeling, having hunted the yet-hidden key in the MASC collections to unlock his own research questions.

March 20, 2026 A display and slideshow of migrant worker photos from a Washington State University Libraries collection are part of recognition events for National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW) March 25-31, sponsored by the WSU College Assistance Migrant Program (WSU CAMP). March 13, 2026 Lauri Cruver Cherian and her sister were going through their parents’ estate when they found a box in the back of a closet, with a hidden treasure inside: some 200 poems written by their maternal grandmother, Myrtle. Cherian, a 1986 WSU alumna and author living in Texas, learned from the poetry collection how her grandmother grew up in 1910 downtown Tacoma in the boarding house her parents owned and ran, the Old Alpha.

The Synth Lab Grand Opening will be held January 22 from 4-5:30pm in the Dimensions Lab, Audio Lab and Synth Lab in the WSU Libraries, Holland 1st floor. Digital Audio Collective members will introduce the lab, speak about the club, demo equipment and allow visitors to tour the new space. The event will also offer free Pizza! The Synth Lab will be available for reservation on the following day, January 23, 2026.

January 15, 2026 WSU Libraries’ new Synth Lab opens Thursday, Jan. 22, with a reception from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Holland Library first-floor Dimensions Lab, room 120C. The lab for using electronic music production equipment is available to all Pullman students, faculty, and staff. WSU Libraries’ latest digital media creation space, the Synth Lab, opens to patrons Jan. 22, in Holland Library’s Dimensions Lab on the first floor.

January 13, 2026 Starting Jan. 20, WSU Libraries will run trials on three artificial intelligence (AI)-powered research platforms: Consensus, Scite.ai, and Undermind. The platforms help researchers analyze citation context, conduct deep literature searches, and synthesize findings across scientific papers. The Consensus trial will run through the spring semester. Scite.ai and Undermind will be available to evaluate for 6-8 weeks.

December 8, 2025 By Trevor Bond The WSU Libraries recently received a remarkable gift of $231,000 from the estate of Melvin “Mel” Hamre, adding to the Hamre Endowment to support students and to enhance library collections. Hamre’s story is one of hard work, curiosity, and lifelong dedication to education. Born in 1932 in Edgewood, Washington, north of Puyallup, he grew up on a family farm where his father worked as a logger and his mother managed the household.
