Improved understanding of sepsis and novel respiratory care approaches, as well as the evolving treatment of the antecedents and consequences of shock, have all been met by the execution of thoughtful data-driven research. Such disease-centric efforts have benefited from the modern era of big data and the realization of disease metrics.

Back to Top Evidence-based health care is an expanding field as the increase in availability of primary research continues. As a result, there exist different approaches to group (i.e., synthesize) primary research to answer specific research questions. One such approach is a scoping review. Scoping reviews are also referred to as “mapping reviews” or “scoping studies” and are considered a higher level of evidence than narrative reviews as a more rigorous and transparent methodology is employed.
