The 2026 festival marks the second year of Limerick's participation in Fáilte Ireland's Home of Halloween Pilot Destination Development Scheme, through which Limerick has secured funding of up to €100,000 annually over three years.
Limerick City and County Council Welcomes Over €22 Million Investment in Major Regeneration Projects Across City and County
The funding package includes a €9 million allocation for the Nicholas Street Public Realm Scheme, supporting the ongoing regeneration of King's Island and Limerick's Medieval Quarter. Significant funding has also been awarded for the Bank Place & Granary Courtyard Public Realm and Central Plaza Common Area project - €7.5 million, and the Southside Connectivity Project - €6 million, creating a combined investment of €22.5 million in three key areas of the city.
Five Wildcard Entrants Secure Place in Limerick Going for Gold 2026 Final
Following extensive adjudication by judges Michael Griffin and Pat Shearin, the five communities selected as wildcard entrants are: Adare, Askeaton, Bruff, Herbertstown and Kilteely. The five wildcard communities will join Castleconnell, Croom, Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Patrickswell who secured their places through a public vote hosted by Live 95.
New National Report Quantifies Economic Benefits of Active Travel as Limerick Continues to Expand Walking and Cycling Network
The report estimates that investment through the NTA's Active Travel Programme is expected to generate almost €4 in benefits for every €1 invested. It also estimates that the programme could generate more than €7.7 billion in benefits nationally over a 30-year period. The report also estimates annual commuter savings of €620 for pedestrians and €3,480 for cyclists when compared with travelling by car.
