Luca Turin on perfume etc.

Newsletter (Digital)
I have long had an interest in perfume as an art form. My definition of art is “anything that is both beautiful and hard to do,” and perfumery certainly is both. The difference between a smell and a fragrance is that a fragrance conveys the intent of the perfumer who composed it. A perfume is therefore a message in a bottle, and it turns out I’m pretty good at reading the message, or at least at offering one reading of it. Source
