Story and photos by Sebastian Price Additional photos courtesy of La Selva Lodge and Manos Angelakis Discovering the Amazon Rainforest’s Biodiversity Discovering abundant biodiversity in Ecuador's tropical rain forest can be an exhilarating undertaking with so much varied vegetation and wildlife. This small diverse South American country includes the towering Andes, Galapagos, and many active volcanoes while also including part of the vast Amazon region.
Dining Etiquette
Story and photos by Manos Angelakis Cultural Dining Norms Around the World Travelling around the world in search of the perfect meal, I realized that etiquette regarding food is considerably different from one culture to another. For instance, most of us were raised with the idea that finishing your plate is respectful. But, in places like China and some Arab nations, this could suggest your host didn’t provide enough food, which could be viewed as a “loss of face” in their part.
Bucatini Amatriciana
Story and photos by Manos Angelakis Bucatini all’ Amatriciana Please don’t get me wrong. I love Molecular Gastronomy based dishes and Nuvelle Cuisine concoctions but there are numerous classics from different cuisines that I make in my kitchen when I want to have “comfort food”. I usually cook dishes that I had when I was growing up as well as classic dishes that I picked up during my peregrinations around the world.
Jypsi Legacy
Story and photo by Manos Angelakis Jypsi Legacy Bourbon is the quintessential American spirit. Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 001 is fairly traditional-tasting delightfully blended, finished and bottled by Whiskey JYPSI in Tennessee and tastes like a true bourbon. However, legally, I don’t think it can be called a bourbon because a bourbon has to be completely made in the USA and JYPSI blends 21% Canadian rye with the US produced other components. Be that as it may, I liked it very much.
CZEN, Englewood
Story by Barbara and Manos Angelakis Photos by Manos Angelakis CZEN exceptional dinning in Englewood, NJ After all our years of eating in many top restaurants both in the US and Europe and a few in Asia, we have to admit that we’re not easily impressed… but impressed we were during this dinner a few days ago! A new restaurant opened in a town nearby, in Englewood, New Jersey to be exact.
Le Beccherie
Story by Carol Stigger Photos by Barbara Angelakis Why is a Michelin Plate Hanging in Treviso’s Le Beccherie L’Assiette Michelin, or Michelin Plate shows that the Michelin inspectors enjoyed food that was not only of good quality, it was also notable. This restaurant might have a Michelin Star on the horizon. Treviso, Italy, known by Italy lovers as “the city of art and water” should add “fine dining” to its moniker.
Irish cooking
Story and photos by Manos Angelakis Irish Cooking I recently received 2 cookbooks that made me revise my thinking about Irish cookery.
Treviso
Story and photos by Barbara Angelakis Treviso, Italy’s Hidden Gem Off the beaten track in the Veneto Region of Italy is the ‘something for everyone’ picturesque medieval town of Treviso. Frescobaldi Tasting
Story and photos by Manos Angelakis Most bottle photos courtesy of the Frescobaldi Estates A recent tasting of the Frescobaldi family’s wines Sangiovese wines are some of the most important and most beloved wines of Italy. Tuscany, Umbria and Campania and their many DOCs and DOCGs produce more Sangiovese wines than any other viticultural area of the world. In Tuscany, the Sangiovese grape is more ubiquitous than any other cultivar.
