As Jessie Way’s 32nd birthday approaches, her parents are asking the community not to mark the day with wishes of a “happy heavenly birthday,” but instead to honor their daughter by showing kindness to someone else. Danette and Tray Way are encouraging friends, family and community members to pay it forward Friday, Sept. 4, by performing a random act of kindness in Jessie’s memory or saying a prayer for her children.

Three people were killed in two separate collisions in Clarendon County over the weekend, including two people who died when a tractor-trailer crossed Interstate 95 and struck a tree. The first collision occurred at about 3:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, near mile marker 117 on I-95, according to Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Pye said a tractor-trailer traveling south ran off the left side of the roadway, crossed the median and northbound lanes and struck a tree.

Clarendon County’s elections office is again without a permanent director after the Board of Voter Registration and Elections voted Monday night to terminate Robert Adams, less than seven months after he took over the position. The board voted 7-1 to immediately terminate Adams following an executive session during its Aug. 31 regularly scheduled meeting. Board member Michael Streath cast the lone opposing vote.
