The event featured educational sessions and equipment sales, with tours highlighting local beef feedlots on July 28.

Our goal is to evaluate the agronomics of corn production while minimizing the risk of N losses from overapplication. However, fertilizer-only application rates also take into consideration a third aspect – the economics of corn production (nitrogen cost versus corn prices). This is the Maximum Return to Nitrogen (MRTN) method.

After more than four decades in teaching, research, extension education and leadership, Dr. John Shutske is calling it a day. Shutske, professor and extension agricultural safety and health specialist with UW-Madison’s department of biological systems engineering, officially retired earlier this month. Among his 41 years in the business, he spend 18 at UW-Madison, 17.5 at the University of Minnesota, and earlier years with agricultural organizations and insurance providers.

Fall application, labor and manure storage are always subject to high-pressure, logistical constraints. But now, with a super El Niño weather pattern poised to bring a wetter and warmer fall, manure managers and applicators will have to think on their feet. A super El Niño is an especially strong variant of an El Niño weather pattern driven by heightened warmth in the Pacific Ocean, which will be a driver for the wet and warm fall.

Ascent, a brand-new event within the agriculture network at Annex Business Media, is a cross-industry career event aimed at linking Canada’s agriculture employers with a new wave of skilled talent – not only limited to students but also engaging skilled tradespeople, emerging professionals and career-changers.

A Nebraska-based feedlot is set to become the staging ground for one company’s mission to prove the potential of agricultural renewable energy. On Aug. 26, Broken Bow’s Adams Land & Cattle feedlot broke ground on a new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in the company of spectators from the agriculture and energy industries, as well as government and community leaders.

A digital roundtable held in July 2026 featured four honourees from the Influential Women in Canadian Agriculture program, discussing barriers faced by women in the agricultural sector. Moderated by agriculture editor Kaitlin Berger, the conversation highlighted issues such as gender bias, mental health challenges, and the undervaluation of women’s contributions in farming. Women farmers report higher levels of stress and mental health issues compared to their male counterparts.
