Study reveals ag workforce
On The Land FNQ Growers engaged consultants to estimate the size of Far North Queensland’s agricultural workforce and where they are being sourced from. President Joe Moro said the findings highlighted the scale and complexity of labour supply across the region, reaching between 11,000-15,000 workers at any one time during the year.
Avo production rebounding
On The Land In its Global Avocado Update 2026, the RaboResearch division says that after Australian production declined in the 2024/25 season – due to “natural biennial bearing cycles” for avocado crops – supply is expected to soar to record levels of 170,000 metric tonnes in coming seasons, based on industry estimates. This would see Australian avocado exports also lift to record highs.

Waterfall precinct upgrade underway
General News The upgrade includes the relocation and installation of a new amenities block, a new roadway for better vehicle access, safer pedestrian zones, and a new forecourt adjoining the main viewing platform. Informational signage, picnic tables and undercover seating will also be installed.
Bank to be ready, come rain or shine
General News The transformation began on Monday and will modernise the facilities alongside introducing one of the bank’s first large-scale battery-backed backup power systems, to prevent outages to banking services during severe weather events. The branch is closed while the upgrade is underway and is expected to reopen in October. Customers can continue banking at a pop-up Smart ATM at Silo Shopping Centre while works are underway.
Police crack down on drugs
General News Officers from the Tablelands Property Crime Squad and the Criminal Investigation Branch executed search warrants at homes in Tolga and Ravenshoe last Tuesday. It was alleged that officers found a small amount of drug crystals in the pocket of a 40-year-old Tolga man before a large quantity of methylamphetamines was found in his pants. He was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and is scheduled to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on 1 October.
