New policy left on the shelf
Community & Business A NEW policy that reflects the State Government’s new legislative changes on who must play a role in hiring general managers has been deferred by Tablelands Regional Council. Amendments to the Local Government Act at the end of August dictates that senior executives for TRC must now be appointed by a selection panel which will include the Mayor, the chief executive officer and the Deputy Mayor.
Man faces DV charges
General News DETECTIVES from the Tablelands Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a 38-year-old Mareeba man with domestic violence related offences. It will be alleged the man committed several offences against a female known to him between April and August this year. The man was arrested in Innisfail on 2 September with assistance from Innisfail detectives and specialist police.

The Melbourne Cup was a highlight of the Annuals Ball held on Saturday night, where patrons were able to get a photo with the unique trophy.

He argues the blaze could have been extinguished much earlier and says information provided to The Express was incorrect. A LANDHOLDER has criticised the Queensland Fire Department for what he claims was its inefficient handling of a dangerous fire in Mareeba recently. He also disputes information given to The Express by QFD following the blaze.
‘Lost’ scroll recovered
General News Mareeba 150th Anniversary Advisory Committee chairman Joe Moro and Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin display the recovered centenary scroll that was caried from Cooktown, via Port Douglas via Thornborough to Mareeba 50 years ago. A SCROLL that marked the centenary years of Mareeba and Port Douglas in 1977 and was thought to be lost has been recovered.
Senator slams disaster funding cuts
