Coates first established herself in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, where she co-founded Wild & Heart Photography with Moya Blackwood.

In the case of East Coast Innovation, a New Brunswick company developing technology for the international aquaculture industry, that question was deceptively simple: what if we stopped designing fish-handling equipment primarily around the people operating it and started designing it around the fish?
