A record 1,417 athletes have gathered in Korea for the largest edition in the competition’s history. Vatican City will make its World Taekwondo championship debut, while refugee athletes will also compete on the sport’s biggest Poomsae stage. Competitors from 83 countries will take part alongside members of the World Taekwondo Refugee Team and athletes competing under the World Taekwondo flag. The final registration figure establishes a new participation record for the championships.

The World Taekwondo Council unanimously selected the Turkish city during an Extraordinary Meeting in Chuncheon. The governing body also reviewed the OTU electoral process, future events in Russia and the development of a new Smart PSS System. The Türkiye Taekwondo Federation presented its hosting proposal ahead of the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, scheduled for September 16–20.

Taekwondo will cross a new frontier at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. From October 1 to 3, its programme will bring together Kyorugi, Poomsae and, for the first time as an official medal discipline, Virtual Taekwondo. The addition represents more than a technological innovation. It will create an unprecedented opportunity: the same athlete will be able to compete for gold in two different expressions of Taekwondo.

Greece will mark a milestone in the development of its Poomsae program by sending its first officially organized national team to a World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. The Hellenic Taekwondo Federation announced that 25 Greek athletes will compete at the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, scheduled for September 16–20 in the Republic of Korea.

El Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships ya cuenta con su programa detallado de competencia. Durante cinco jornadas, los principales exponentes internacionales de la modalidad buscarán los 42 títulos mundiales en juego en el Songnym creme? no: Songamlando Sports Town Air Dome. La competencia comenzará el miércoles 16 de septiembre y finalizará el domingo 20. Cada jornada arrancará a las 9:00 —hora local de Corea— e incluirá pruebas individuales, parejas y equipos.

World and Paralympic champions Amy Truesdale and Matt Bush joined Joe Lane in World Taekwondo’s commentary team during the Muju Taekwondowon 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix, bringing elite-level experience directly to digital audiences. The initiative featured British Para Taekwondo stars Amy Truesdale, Matt Bush and Joe Lane, who commentated on selected matches through the quarter-final stages broadcast live on World Taekwondo’s Instagram and TikTok channels.

El Taekwondo de los Juegos CODICADER Honduras 2026 reunió a estudiantes de entre 15 y 17 años de Belice, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua y Panamá. La competencia se desarrolló durante tres jornadas en la Universidad Católica de Honduras. El programa comenzó el 5 de septiembre con Poomsae y continuó los días 6 y 7 con veinte categorías de Kyorugi. En total se disputaron 23 pruebas, que entregaron igual cantidad de medallas de oro y plata, además de 45 bronces.
