By Simeon Boyce A nephew of late legendary Malawian musician Daniel Kachamba has opened a free music school in Chileka, Blantyre, to equip young people with musical skills while preserving his uncle’s legacy. Adams Kamba established the Dr Daniel Kachamba School of Music at Jacaranda Museum in Chileka, where 40 children aged between 11 and 17 have so far enrolled for lessons. Most of them are learning how to play musical instruments such as the guitar, keyboard and drums.

Authorities at Mwabvi Wildlife Reserve in Nsanje say the reserve is fully prepared to welcome visitors as Malawi commemorates Tourism Month this September. The Private Schools Association of Malawi (PRISAM) has commended the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) for the early release of the 2026 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) results. In a statement, PRISAM President Ernest Kaonga said the timely release of the results would benefit learners as schools prepare to reopen this weekend. “The early release of MSCE results will help learners to start school together with their peers when schools open over the weekend,” Kaonga said.

Maranatha Academy has awarded Miss World Malawi 2026 contestant Ireen Navicha a K20 million scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree at Sharda University in India. The scholarship recognises Navicha’s achievement as the first Malawian to reach the Top 40 at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam. She also finished among the Top 10 in Africa, Top 6 in Africa for Beauty With a Purpose and Top 4 in Africa for People’s Choice.

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has challenged manufacturers and consumers to embrace quality culture if Malawi is to grow industry, protect public health, and increase exports. MBS Director General Symon Mandala made the call during the opening of a three-day Standards Awareness Session in Blantyre.

Second Vice President Enock Chihana has implored foreign investors to invest in Malawi for enhanced development activities. Chihana underscored the need to invest in Malawi’s health and education infrastructure, especially in remote areas. He made the call in Botswana on Saturday during the unveiling of the African Hero Foundation, which seeks to reduce grassroots poverty through the construction of schools, clinics and technical colleges among others.
