https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there!! It was a beautiful day to spend with family and/or be on the water doing some fishing….and there was some really good fishing to be had! I had a couple of folks report in today they saw the most epic flounder bite they had ever seen. Several anglers had limits, other’s had a few keepers and tons of throwbacks and still others had some very nice fish. Let’s get to it.
Decent Flounder Bite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU We had some wind to contend with this morning, but this afternoon it had dropped out nicely and this evening it very pleasant on the bay. I got out on the Thorofare for a few hours and a short sleeve shirt was plenty. I caught some throwback flounder on the chartreuse Deadly Double and watched my buddies Tommy Perry and Bobby Pastorius catch a couple of keepers.
Some Big Striped Bass Around
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU We had some leftover wind to contend with this morning, but by this afternoon it was absolutely beautiful. Tomorrow’s weather looks fantastic, but don’t you be going fishing unless Mom says it’s ok…..maybe some lucky folks will have Mom go fishing with them. Either way Happy Mother’s Day!! The striped bass migration is in full swing right now and we are seeing some very nice fish in the Assateauge surf and in the Ocean City Inlet.
First Sheepshead of the Season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU We had one of the nicest days this spring so far today with very light winds, warm temps and sunny skies all day long. It was a great day to be outside in general and an even better day to be out fishing! The first sheepshead of the season was captured today and the story that goes along with it is pretty good.
Chilly and Breezy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU The rain and thunderstorms that threatened most of the afternoon yesterday, finally showed up in the area last night and after some torrential downpours and some lightning they headed off the beach pretty quickly. Unfortunately they left some wind and much cooler temperatures in their wake. There were still a few boats out there trying to bend a rod, and some of us hit the Annual Ocean City Reef Foundation dinner for a good time.
And The Assateague Surf Has Been on Fire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU It was an absolutely beautiful day today! Warm temperatures, light winds and not a cloud in the sky. Kristen and I decided to do a little surf fishing down on Assateague Island today where we didn’t even get a bite…..and we didn’t care one bit. It was gorgeous! Today’s luck for us aside, the Assateague Surf has been on absolute fire for some over the past few weeks.
A 6.5 Pound Flounder and The Biggest Striped Bass of My Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU I ventured down to Assateague Island for a solo surf fishing trip this afternoon and I enjoyed the scenery, I enjoyed the weather and I enjoyed catching the biggest striper that I’ve ever caught in my life. I used a pretty simple hi-lo rig with circle hooks baited with live sand fleas and Fishbites easy clam and fished the very first part of the outgoing tide.
Awesome Sea Bass Fishing and Some Big Stripers From the OC Inlet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU Today started off very nice, but the wind picked up mid morning and fishing went downhill from there. A strong northwest wind pushed in today and will remain for a couple of days which will probably dirty back bay waters and rough up the ocean. Things will settle down later in the week and fishing should pick up right where it left off.
The Epic Inshore Flounder Bite Continues
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU We had some pretty nice weather today with sunny skies, warm temps and little wind to speak of, and there were plenty of folks out on the water trying to bend a rod. There were some nice drum caught in the Assateague surf, there was some good sea bass fishing and the crazy good flounder bite around the OC inlet was crazy good once again.
Sea Bass and Flounder Before the Storms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOy0l1xRpZU Man, it just got done pouring at my house! We also had some crazy thunder, some wicked lightning and some very strong winds. All is well, but we’ve certainly had some active weather this evening with severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area. Thankfully most of the fish were caught before.
