A joint panel led by the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA) and Harper Adams University will take place at the COP30 summit in Brazil to discuss the role of ruminant livestock in nutrition and the environment. The BMPA and Harper Adams University are jointly holding a panel meeting on 14th November at the COP30 in Belem, Brazil. The science-led panel is titled “Ruminant livestock innovation to deliver human nutrition and improve environmental outcome”.
ABP finds “significant progress” made at processor level through PRISM 2030
ABP Food Group has launched the year two report of its Programme for the Improvement in Sustainability of Red Meat (PRISM), finding that 48% of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable meat and fresh produce according to a YouGov poll. The farmer-led initiative, launched in 2022, aims to help beef and lamb producers reduce their environmental footprint while generating the data the wider industry needs to demonstrate progress and meet future policy and procurement requirements.

AHDB's EnviroBeef aims to lower the carbon footprint of beef
A tool launched by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) will aim to measure the potential of an animal to reduce the carbon footprint of suckler beef through improved herd efficiencies. EnviroBeef combines results from the National Beef Evaluations (NBE) into a single metric that allows suckler beef producers to benchmark animals across all beef breeds for environmental impact.
Foodservice wholesaler to spotlight mutton in campaign
UK foodservice wholesaler Brakes has launched a campaign to encourage chefs to ‘Make More of Mutton’. The Brakes campaign will look to showcase the benefits of mutton, which it said offers a richer flavour and tenderness, especially when slow-cooked. Alongside the campaign, a range of mutton cuts are available, with cuts such as racks, joints and chops as well as diced mutton and mutton mince. The range is 100% British farm assured.
Dawn Meats to acquire 65% of Alliance Group
Dawn Meats has announced that it has been selected by the Board of Alliance Group as its preferred long-term strategic partner. The proposed partnership, which is subject to shareholder approval, would see Dawn Meats invest NZ$250 million to acquire 65% of the shares in Alliance Group. Farmer-shareholders in Alliance Group were informed of their Board’s preferred and unanimously recommended option.
New members join HCC research programme
Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has selected eight candidates for the 2025-2026 period of its Meat Minds programme. Meeting for the first time at the Royal Welsh Show, the new Meat Minds group is the second intake for the programme, which aims to connect young individuals working across the red meat supply chain.
AIMS calls for greater UK meat inspection support
Dr Jason Aldiss BEM, executive director of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS), has called traditional meat inspection “a costly, century-old performance that does nothing to protect public health”. Aldiss called on policymakers to “ditch outdated rituals and embrace modern science”, claiming that traditional meat inspection was “little more than a fig leaf”.
Taking a global approach to domestic food security
The International Meat Trade Association’s Katie Doherty highlights how Government policy must support strategic two-way trade that works in balance with domestic food production to achieve a stable food supply in the UK. Just as the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is calling on this Government to prioritise food security, so are we. We want the Government to think about food security both from a national food production standpoint but also a trade point of view.
