Netflix disclosed last week that roughly 300 of its films and television programmes have used generative AI in their production so far in 2026, making it the most detailed public accounting of AI deployment at scale by any major streamer. The figure appeared in the company’s Q2 shareholder letter, published alongside second-quarter revenue of $12.56 billion, up 13.4% year on year. Netflix shares fell more than 8% after hours on a slight revenue miss.

Channel 5 has commissioned An Impossible Way to Die, a six-part crime thriller starring Sharon Rooney as a detective drawn into a murder investigation that begins with four bodies around a dinner table and a scorpion crawling from one victim’s mouth. The series goes into production now and is scheduled for 2027.

Investigation Discovery premieres Game Day Murders on 27 July, a six-part true crime series executive produced by Shaquille O’Neal through his production company Jersey Legends Productions. The series revisits murder cases that cut through the world of professional and collegiate sport, with episodes running weekly on ID and streaming on HBO Max.

Channel 5 has confirmed a second series of Cooper & Fry, expanding the adaptation of Stephen Booth‘s Peak District novels from four episodes to eight. The new run is filming now and scheduled for 2027, with Robert James-Collier and Mandip Gill returning as the mismatched detective duo. Booth’s novels have sold around 2.5 million copies worldwide and have been translated into at least 16 languages, giving the series a substantial built-in readership to chase.
