June 29, 2026 Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Polk 93 near Rocky in reference to a damaged vehicle. Information has been forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney for further consideration. Dawson Briley, 26, of Mena was arrested on a Failure to Appear Warrant. Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Hwy 71 S near Cove leading to the arrest of Brandi Howard, 49, of Cove on charges of DWI and Careless and Prohibited Driving.

(June 10, 2026) — At approximately 12:30 Friday afternoon, a driver was hit by three Canadian Pacific Kansas City locomotive engines traveling northeast at the crossing located at Mena Street and Highway 71. Several witnesses claiming to have seen the entire incident provided similar statements to The Mena Star. The driver, whose name we have not officially been provided at this time, is said to be a young male. He was driving north, crossing Mena Street at Highway 71.

The following information was received from Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer for the week of June 22, 2026 – June 28, 2026. The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent, and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.

June 21 A death investigation report was taken at a residence on Thalia Drive. A report of a firearm being found by a person near Creekside Apartments. If you are missing a firearm, contact the police department. Charles Morgan, 49, was charged with Public Intoxication and Theft at PCDC. June 22 No report. June 23 Joshua Wright, 44, was served with a warrant at the county jail. June 24 A report of endangering the welfare of a minor was taken at a residence on Parks Avenue.

June 15, 2026 Deputies were dispatched to a business near Cove in reference to an altercation leading to the arrest of Michael Carbone, 18, of Pencil Bluff on a charge of 3rd Degree Domestic Battery. Chelsea Holtzclaw, 19, of Mena was arrested on a warrant for 3rd Degree Domestic Battery. June 16, 2026 Cindy Watkins, 63, of Cove was arrested on a Failure to Appear Warrant.

June 14 A report of criminal trespass was taken at a residence on Mena Street. June 15 A report of fraud was taken at a residence on Tupelo Drive. June 8, 2026 Deputies responded to a report of a Violation of a No Contact Order. Information has been forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney for further consideration. Robert Berkey, 40, of Mena was arrested on a warrant for 4th Degree Sexual Assault. Jesse Zamora, 43, of Mena was arrested on a Probation Violation Warrant. Tyler Everett, 34, of Mena was arrested on a warrant for Theft of Property. Jessica McDaniel, 32, of Mena was arrested on a warrant for 2nd Degree Terroristic Threatening.
