While it may come as somewhat of a surprise to some South African fans, the Springboks were going to lose at some point. Anyone who knows the cycle of winning and losing in sports knows that everyone, eventually, will get knocked off the perch. You simply aren’t gonna win endlessly. In a way, I think the Springboks needed a loss (they didn’t deserve it; there was no arrogance present), but the ever-growing squad needed it from a realignment perspective.
