WA Government increases police powers for Land Forces event
The extra powers given the state’s police force will be in effect from October 1 to 10, with the event to be held at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) from October 6 to 8. The new powers allow police to set up checkpoints, cordons and roadblocks in a protected area around the convention centre, prevent people or vehicles from entering the area and search both people and vehicles within the protected space.
Business events industry meets politicians in Canberra
Over 100 people working in tourism and business events attended the Federal Parliamentary Friends of Tourism networking event at Parliament House, which was attended by Farrell as well as the federal assistant tourism minister, Nita Green, and former nationals leader and current House of Representatives member, David Littleproud. Tourism Australia’s managing director, Robin Mack, was also at the gathering.
A peek inside the business class suites coming to Qantas
The suites will be fitted to new generation A321XLR aircraft, with two suites per row, at an angle, with the first of the 16 aircraft to offer the suites arriving at Qantas in 2028. Alongside lie flat beds, the suites will each have a 19-inch entertainment screen and a privacy door, “generous” storage, both wireless and USB-C charging capabilities.

One Australian hotel makes it into the world’s top 50
The sole Australian representative, the 192-room Capella Sydney, is ranked 16th this year, sliding down from 12th in 2025 when it made its debut on the list. The hotel opened a couple of blocks back from Sydney Harbour in 2023 and earlier this year launched several event spaces in a building across the road, known as The Lands by Capella. Earlier this month the list of hotels ranked 51 to 100 was released by what was known as 50 Best and is simply The 50.

A $114 million windfall for business events in Adelaide
Over the three months of winter, several key business events were held in Adelaide, delivering a strong economic return for the city. HORT Connections, which features Australia’s largest horticultural exhibitions – this year spread over 12,000m2 at Adelaide Convention Centre – drew 3,920 delegates and more than 220 exhibitors and was responsible for driving $20 million of economic activity in Adelaide.
