National charities Mencap, Mind, and the National Autistic Society have reacted with alarm to today’s Supreme Court ruling that removes the framework known as Cheshire West. They warn that it strips fundamental human rights protections from potentially hundreds of thousands of severely disabled people. The Department for Work and Pensions has today announced proposals to reform the Fit Note system in England, including four trials aimed at providing better, more targeted support for people who are unwell. The trials, which will last up to 12 months, include two areas (Birmingham and Coventry) where fit notes will be issued with follow up appointments for support.

A report from Public Health Wales has found more than 135,000 children and young people in Wales are estimated to have a diagnosable mental health condition.
