Bolt will begin offering car-sharing in the UK for the first time through a partnership with London-based Hiyacar. Hiyacar is a peer-to-peer car-sharing service that lets individual owners and local businesses rent their vehicles out by the hour, with 265,000 users enrolled on the platform. From this autumn, riders will be able to book Hiyacar’s service through the Bolt app in London.

British bike manufacturer Brompton is piloting a ‘mobile bike hire dock’ that brings rental bikes directly to customers. Brompton operates a network of more than 100 static hire locations across the UK through stores and lockers. Riders can visit these stations to hire a bike and then return it to a station once they’re done. Built on a cargo bike, the mobile dock now aims to bring Brompton’s hire service directly to people, rather than riders needing to go to a station.

The mobility services provider was behind Germany’s on-demand, ride-pooling service ‘CleverShuttle’. After CleverShuttle’s insolvency in 2023, the company shifted to the asset-light ‘CleverSolutions’ which has reportedly run more than 30 on-demand services across Germany.

The world’s first commercial vertiport has been approved for eVTOL operations in Dubai. Officially registered as ‘VDX’, the vertiport has received regulatory certification from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) making it ready to host air taxis as soon as the aircraft themselves have regulatory approval to fly.

Lyft Urban Solutions has announced plans to acquire Serveo’s bike share business in Spain this year in a deal that would majorly deepen the micromobility operator’s presence across the Atlantic. Today, Lyft Urban Solutions operates six bike share systems in North America including NYC’s Citi Bike which is the largest system on the continent.

Pikyrent has partnered with technology provider Invers to expand its B2B offering with a more comprehensive car-sharing platform for operators. A subsidiary of the Italian IT company Auriga, Pikyrent operates car-sharing and moped-sharing services across Bari, Turin and Milan. The company manages these shared services with its own platform called B2-Ride which can also be licensed by vehicle rental companies, municipalities, operators and other organisations to manage their own shared services.

UK battery minerals startup TaiSan has raised £4.65 million in seed funding to scale up production of its solid-state sodium-ion technology for micromobility batteries. Sodium has increasingly emerged as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries for small electric vehicles. However, its lower energy density means sodium batteries tend to be larger and heavier, limiting their widespread adoption in an industry where weight is closely tied to performance.

US robotaxi company Waymo seems to have been quietly laying the groundwork for future European operations. The company has registered new entities in France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany all in the space of one month, with the four filings dated in June 2026. Waymo itself has not announced or confirmed expansions into any of the countries.

Lisbon is set to test a series of street redesigns before deciding which changes should become permanent, as the city looks to reshape how road space is allocated. The trials will combine shared mobility data from Bolt with simulation modelling from technical university ETH Zürich to measure how reallocating street space affects traffic, cycling and micromobility flows, pedestrian access and the use of public space.

A free community bike share pilot is launching in Greater Manchester to bring shared micromobility to what would have typically been an overlooked, underserved area. Having received just shy of £80,000 in funding from Active Travel England, the small-scale service will from tomorrow (July 7) connect Walkden train station with RHS Bridgewater – one of Europe’s largest gardening projects which spans over 150 acres.
