(AP) -- Michael Harris II hit a solo homer, Mauricio Dubon had an RBI ground-rule double and Tyler Mahle worked five strong innings as the Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in the Little League Classic on Sunday night. Harris hit an 0-2 slider from Milwaukee reliever Aaron Ashby over the right field fence to give Atlanta an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

BEREA, Ohio -- Not many gave Deshaun Watson a chance of reclaiming the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback spot over the past 22 months. Since Watson ruptured his right Achilles the first time in a Week 7 game in 2024, owner Jimmy Haslam said during last year’s owners meetings that the Browns “took a big swing and miss” when they sent three first-round picks to Houston for the controversial quarterback in 2022.

MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University junior Ella DeBruyn ran past 21 of her teammates to win the NMU Wildcat Open in college women's cross country on Friday morning. Set on a relatively flat course near the Superior Dome and along Lake Superior, DeBruyn finished the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 18 minutes, 27.6 seconds.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- After a stop in the NFL, former Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright could be heading to LSU thanks to a court order that is creating havoc throughout college sports by allowing Wright and others an unexpected fifth year of eligibility. Wright’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press on Monday that the tight end had been waived by the Cleveland Browns and, if he clears waivers, will join Lane Kiffin’s roster at No. 11 LSU.

NEGAUNEE -- You'll have to forgive Negaunee High School football coach Jeff Niemi if he doesn't want to look too far into the future this season. This perennial Upper Peninsula powerhouse Miners team was snakebit last fall when they lost a heartbreaking 29-28 overtime decision at West Branch Ogemaw Heights in the opening round of the MHSAA Division 5 playoffs. They're right back there in Division 5 again this fall with an enrollment of 442 students.
