Dear Heloise: Today I opened a can of paint that I use infrequently and sparsely. Consequently, it’s been opened and resealed many times. Today, when I went to reseal it, it didn’t feel like the lid was properly seating itself in the can. I pulled off the lid and looked at the pattern of the paint to match it with that on the rim of the can. I found the pattern and matched it up, and the lid seated itself in the can easily.

It is unfortunate for “The Social Reckoning” that “The Social Network” exists. The latter is a modern masterpiece. The former was kind of always doomed to exist in its shadow. Although Aaron Sorkin can be quite good directing his own work (see: “Molly’s Game”), it’s hard not to fantasize about what might have been if David Fincher had returned to direct this latest Sorkin script.

GREEN BAY, WI – Mary Kay Ranta, 81, & James “Jim” Ranta, 82, passed away three weeks apart--Mary Kay on August 31, 2026, & Jim on September 16, 2026. MARY KAY was born August 1, 1945, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula & was adopted by Fred & Mary Winter. She lived life in her own way. Early in her career, Mary Kay was the proud owner & operator of Jack & Jill’s, a children’s clothing store in downtown Marquette, Michigan. She later became a Language Arts teacher, retiring in her early fifties.

VERO BEACH, FL – Meredith C. Walgren, M.D., Ph.D., of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away suddenly on September 28, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut. A physician, psychiatrist, researcher, and scholar, Meredith devoted much of her professional life to medicine and the care of others. She graduated from Amity High School, Class of 1974, and magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with a B.A. in Psychobiology.

FAIRBANKS TOWNSHIP -- A 47-year-old Garden woman was seriously injured Friday morning after being ejected from her vehicle in a single-vehicle crash in Fairbanks Township, according to Michigan State Police. Troopers from the state police post in Gladstone responded to the crash site at approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday 9 on II Road near II Lane, said Lt. Ben Eckola, Eighth District public information officer.
